When I first started as a Scrum Master
I thought my job was to protect my team from upper management 🙆🏽♂️
I believed I had to act as a buffer, shielding them from any external pressures.
But I quickly learned that this approach was flawed.
⚠️ When the project was running behind schedule
I was trying to keep the team focused and shield them from management’s growing concerns.
On the contrary, this led to misunderstandings and increased stress.
💡 I realized my role wasn’t to act as a barrier but rather a bridge.
I needed to facilitate open communication and foster collaboration.
🗣️ So, I called a meeting with both the team and management.
We discussed the challenges openly, set realistic expectations, and aligned our goals.
🎯 The result?
✅ The team felt more connected to the vision.
✅ Management gained a better understanding of the team’s efforts and constraints.
If you’re a new Scrum Master, remember this:
❌ Your job isn’t to protect the team from management.
✅ It’s to ensure both sides work together seamlessly.
