Yoga is so much more than what we typically think. Since having covid, I can tell a difference in my lung capacity. What I used to be able to move through with ease, now causes me to be winded. Yesterday I started working on yoga to improve lung function and boost immunity. I’m hoping, slowly, my lung capacity will improve and this practice will help speed it along. If you have questions about this, reach out. I’d love to possibly help others who are struggling with this.

I like to tie my yoga practices to what’s going on in my body physically, emotionally and spiritually. Tonight I worked mostly on heart opening postures. Of course, physically these are actually “chest” opening postures and they have wonderful physical benefits! (Helps to create a healthy spine, creates a more flexible rib cage, experience better breathing, etc.) However, I start to transform emotionally when I work on “heart” opening postures. I’m more vulnerable in my thoughts and prayers, more open to other ideas, and I’m able to give and receive love easier than normal. Our body internally stores emotions and these postures helps us get them out. With everything going on in our world, I needed to open my heart tonight. I needed to open my heart to get my stored up emotion out and allow myself to openly receive thoughts and opinions of others. Some people ask me if yoga really helps me mentally and spiritually or if I just say that. Yes, it actually does! If you want to talk more about it ask me and we can chat...maybe...dare I say it...get coffee somewhere! It’s been so long! Or just check out a yoga video or class (coming soon)!

There are many different opinions over how to handle our current situation. Should we open everything? Should we stay at home longer? You may even have a different opinion than your family or closest friends. I’ve read and heard some incredibly hurtful remarks lately. Lashing out in anger at someone else or even at yourself usually comes from a deeper emotion of maybe fear, attachment, or desire. Let’s try to rise above and be better to each other. Enjoy this Ahimsa practice.
