Trees help us.

Research indicates that living near a dense tree canopy is positively associated with integrity of the amygdala — our brain’s center for processing and managing emotions. Enjoy the canopy.

Neuroscience of Nature. Spending time around trees lowers stress-related hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, improves memory, and reduces blood pressure. Sharing a favorite tree of mine. Enjoy.

How’s your sleep? Are you tired of all the old tips on how to improve your sleep that don’t really work?

On May 12, Tuesday evening, I’ll be giving a free presentation for The Mended Hearts, Inc., hosted by Northwestern Memorial Cardiology, and they’ve invited me to share it with my network of clients, friends, and colleagues.

The talk is called Sleep Like a Baby and goes beyond basic sleep hygiene into some of the deeper neuroscience and behavioral patterns that strongly affect sleep, energy, stress, and recovery.

If you’d like to attend, just email me a note by 4:00 pm CT on Tuesday and we’ll send you the Teams link. email: [email protected] Love for you to join us! ♥️

(You’ll need Teams installed on your phone or computer.)

Good morning! Recipe for a good night’s sleep:

Step into your day… and live it.

Move your body.

Engage your mind.

Let yourself be part of the world.

And then, this is what most people miss:

Gently set aside the worry about sleep.

Worry keeps the brain alert. Alert brains don’t drift.

Instead…

notice what’s good around you, even in this moment.

Light through the trees.

A quiet breath.

A small sense of “this is okay.”

Sleep isn’t something we force at night.

It’s something we build… quietly… all day long.

And sometimes, it begins with noticing or remembering the parts that are good.

A small moment from a walk I took last weekend.

Enjoy your day.

The weekend retreat. I almost didn’t do.
“No time.” (You know the feeling.)
But I went anyway.
On a walk, I found this—hidden in the woods.

Funny how guidance shows up right after we give ourselves what we’ve been avoiding.
✨ What are you not making time for… that could actually change things? Let’s stay open to what may be hidden.

When Brain Dance came out, Amazon sent it to places all over the world, and I felt deeply happy and proud.

But honestly, nothing has moved me more than this.

Our friend, the owner of a beautiful coffee shop in my neighborhood, chose to share copies of “Gratitude: Journaling the Good” right here at Wise Cup, with friends and neighbors.

It’s the kind of place where the music is perfect, the aesthetic is exquisite yet deeply comforting, and reflection feels natural—unforced and welcome. A place to sit and breathe for a while.

Seeing the journal there reminded me why I created it in the first place: not for scale or speed, but for moments of pause, connection, and steadiness—especially in the middle of ordinary life. Many of us so desperately need time to reflect.

Thank you, Shivangi, for sharing this journal in your space and for creating a place that already invites calm, connection, and resilience.

If you’re Chicagoland/Oak Park local, you can find “Journaling the Good” at Wise Cup. And if Wise Cup isn’t part of your geography, you can still bring a good bit of that feeling home. Copies are available for purchase here:
