The campaign, B Word And N Word Free, B N Free. I'm the father of three sons, who were raised here in Chicago. They would have company in our backyard playing basketball and that was good. I only asked that there was no cursing in the yard. I did not want to hear the N word either. I became Papa Ju to our area. In the 1990's my ex wife and I, were splitting up and to my friends I called her all ki
nds of B's. My good friends checked me. Saying how could Mr. Respectful, be so disrespectful. The question challenged me. At the same time I had become a writer or a player of words. I made a personal commitment that I would respect all especially myself, my family, my friends, my block, my community, my work etc. I wrote a piece in 1998 That is called, "B Word And N Word Free, B N Free". When I first started doing the poem, there would be people before me and after me that did not rhyme unless they put the N word in there. That's where I started, I've been up and down with being motivated in our hood because so many of our people believe that the N word is our name. It has become my mission to ask people to believe and respect ourselves and our sisters, mothers and daughters. Sounds simple, no it has not been. I have found some of the brightest people around who believe that they or some of us are the N word. I'm asking my family, my friends, my community, to help rid the world of this. In the days to come I will post the B Word And N Word Free, B N Free poem. Thanks to all that have liked the page so far and to those that will support the process.
