Injury Prevention - Pre adolescent and adolescent youth should not have the same training program as an adult. The youth demographic are physically less mature and has a very limited knowledge base of resistance training.
Exercise Science and Nutrition presented by SecondaryU is a 4 series interactive workout where students can train, learn, exchange ideas and ask questions concerning their pursuit of achieving optimum athleticism.

Caloric Dense Foods vs Nutrient Dense Foods
Caloric dense foods contain high levels of calories per serving. Nutrient dense foods contain high levels of macro (carbs, protein, fat), and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals) per serving.

Serves nutrient dense fresh foods. These food items promote cardiovascular health and many other important bodily functions.
McDonald's
Serves processed and caloric dense foods. Processed foods are high in sodium, fats, sugar and other food fillers. Over 90% of McDonald's food items contain caloric dense foods. These foods items can cause obesity, poor cardiovascular and mental health as well as some cancers.

SecondaryU presents an interactive workout of Exercise Science & Nutrition
Exercise Science and Nutrition presented by SecondaryU is a 4 series interactive workout where students can train, learn, exchange ideas and ask questions concerning their pursuit of achieving optimum athleticism.
The purpose of this interactive workout is to educate. SecondaryU recognizes that students & parents are overwhelmed with a plethora of information, with little or no time to process and make sense as to what training and nutrition regime is appropriate for their kids.
SecondaryU helps make the complexity of information simple and easy to process.
Information such as ways to eat efficient while living in a food desert, to knowing the difference between nutrient dense vs caloric dense food items - as well as explaining the functions of the Kinetic Chain and what it means in terms of Injury Prevention and Optimum Performance.

The Pursuit of Passion over Monetary Wealth is an idea I drum across my audience like a bucket boy on the Chicago city streets. Repetitive and Rhythmic, mixed with humor and a sprinkle of irony.
We are living in the richest country in the world, with the highest incarceration rate, a budget for military spending that far exceeds education by 12 fold, and a flawed political system where our leaders use buzz words such as, "Increase in GDP" or "Job Creation" as if Wal Mart increasing their exports or McDonald raising its minimum wage has anything to do with the health and spiritual well being of an entire population. Not to mention, this is the same population that dies from heart related illnesses and cancer that could otherwise be treated through self awareness.
Collectively we are headed in the wrong direction and getting there quickly.
So when discussing education amongst the youth - what are we really talking about?

Importance of Breakfast
I must stress the importance of starting your day with a well balanced breakfast of Macro (Carbs, Protein, Fat) and Micro (Vitamins, Minerals) nutrients. Adults and children alike can benefit from a morning meal. These benefits include: Increased cognition & overall brain function, increased productivity as well as providing energy.
It has been proven that adults who start their day with a meal perform better in the work environment. This also translates to the pre-adolescence and adolescence demographic. The students who start their day with a balanced breakfast perform better in the classroom than their peers.
Breakfast has a more important role in the context of history. The year was 1969 and in a neighborhood church in Oakland, CA, the nations first free breakfast program was created by an organization call The Black Panther Party.
Many may regard the Black Panther Party as a militant group of black socialists who sought to destroy and overthrow the US Government (well at least the FBI thought so).
The Black Panther party was actually created to provide services to poor people in under resourced communities. One of the goals was to feed every hungry child in the United States.
The free breakfast program gained much support and eventually spread throughout the nation. At one point the program fed 10,000 children every morning.
I'm a proud son of a dad who helped organize a charter of the Black Panther free breakfast program out of St. Thaddeus Church located on Chicago's south side. Dr Richard J Gardner, Sr was 15 yrs old and helped manage the program from 1969 - 1970.
●●Skipping breakfast extends the fasting period. The body adapts to these long periods of fasting by slowing its ability to breakdown biological food into chemical energy (process called catabolism). As a result, the body will crave starchy carbohydrates to use for energy as well as store for fat. In essence, your body will increase its fat storage to help maintain bodily functions throughout long periods of no food●●

Our youth are faced with a multitude of issues that stem from an environment without adequate resources in Health & Education.
SecondaryU believes if one does seek solutions to rectify a problem, then the problem will not become a necessary condition of their reality.
Our youth do not value Health, because it is not properly taught in school.
Our youth do not value education because our classrooms do not provide or encourage development of the problem solving skills our youth require to change their present condition.
SecondaryU identifies and recognizes athletics as a platform upon which high school student athletes are empowered to maximize their cognitive abilities which allows them to address their reality.

The purpose of this camp is to build a solid foundation of technique and movement that is crucial for all high school defensive backs.
We believe the current Era of defensive backs has given birth to new levels of speed, but only to fall short of skill & technique.
