He fulfilled part one of that dream by becoming the Executive Director of Project Scor

An unknown Cub with a retired jersey number 07/10/2019

"Paul Schramka’s Chicago Cubs jersey number has been retired, an impressive achievement for a guy who never batted in a major league game."

Paul Schramka, a Milwaukee baseball legend and family friend died on Monday, July 8, 2019.

The obituary in today's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel captures just a glimpse of this compassionate and generous man.

"Paul was a man of faith, family, the flag, and fastballs. All of which are embodied in America's national pastime…When his playing days ended. he continued to support and promote baseball as the longtime president of the Old Time Ballplayers Assn., the World Series Club, and coaching."

The Chicago Trib ran a story on Paul in 2016, "an unknown Cub with a retired jersey number": https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cubs/ct-cubs-old-cub-met-20161028-story.html

We've got a drawer full of baseballs and other Milwaukee Brewers memorabilia Paul gave us during the years we were caring for my father-in-law, a lifelong friend, both of them graduates of Messmer High School. Paul was one of the few who paid my father-in-law Happy regular visits following Hap's massive stroke in 1989. And he took special care of Hap's caregivers, sharing his club seats with us for several Brewers games.

A life well-lived. A lasting impression.
