Urban Hardball teen mentors will be out at the Levin Park fest 5458 W. Kenzie this Saturday, July 16 to work with youngsters from the Austin community from 11:30 - 3:30. There will also be dance performances, pre school registration, resident services, food, and much, much more. Join P3 and Austin coming together this Saturday.

Little league baseball has become an antiquated system that has not done a good job of considering how URBAN sports must function to survive particularly in an economically influenced sport such as baseball. The birth of other baseball leagues with less stringent rules and regulations as well as the continued growth of AAU teams across various sports for youth helps accentuate the need to reconsider the supportive needs for equal and fair access to urban youth sports. That being said, I grew up playing baseball in Chicago and competed with and against peers from all sides of town including some players from my north side neighborhood that played ball at JRW. It is my assumption that many teams of all races have been composed of players from questionable geographical areas. However all it takes is one jealous minded hater, void of an understanding of true youth development needs, to spoil an inspirational story for young people across the country in challenging urban environments like Chicago. I don't agree with the "race card" angle but certainly would say there are some miserable people close to home (evergreen park) that need to get a life!

The road continues to uplift community baseball in Austin. Coach Keith serves youth at St. Angelas on Saturday January 31st.
