The dinner dates, the aperitivos, the beach volleyball games that somehow turn into late nights.

The colleagues and clients who make work something you look forward to.

The families who welcome you into their lives.

The market vendors who know your name.

Home has never been about four walls. It’s always been about the people.

As one chapter comes to an end, another begins. The next adventure is waiting!

It’s not goodbye…

How is it possible that I’ve been coming to Reggio every summer for the past 7 years, living here the last 2 and this was my first visit here?

So close to Reggio is one of the most peaceful places… with Prayer flags, beautiful statues, mountain views, and a that blanketing feeling to slow down.

I can’t wait to go back… maybe bring some friends. Who’s coming with me?!

Every summer, I take our students on the same excursion… two of my favorite places in Italy!

Yet somehow, it never feels the same.

Every group brings its own laughter, friendships, adventures, and unforgettable moments. Watching Italy become part of their story is one of my favorite traditions.

Sometimes the moments that change your life don’t feel big when they’re happening.💫

In 2019, I came to Reggio Emilia as a visiting professor through USAC.

One evening, I decided to go to Yoga in the Piazza.

It wasn’t part of some grand plan. I just rolled out my mat and sat down.

As I looked around, I noticed the photos hanging throughout the piazza and the people gathered around me. I didn’t know who they were yet, but I remember having a very clear feeling:

These are my people.

I found out that the event was being organized by GAST and that it happened to be their birthday celebration.

For the next few weeks, I volunteered whenever I could.

The more time I spent with the athletes, staff, families, and volunteers, the more certain I became that there was something special happening here.

Before I left Italy that summer, I sat down with Giacomo and said:

“We need to build a project together. My students need to experience this.”

We started planning right away. Then COVID arrived.

The project was put on hold, and what we thought would take one year ended up taking three.

But eventually it happened.

This year, we are welcoming our sixth group of Chico State students to Reggio Emilia.

And somewhere along the way, the project changed my life too.

What started as a chance yoga class in Piazza Fontanesi led to years of collaboration with GAST, bringing students to Italy every summer, and eventually moving here to work alongside the people who inspired me that very first day.

Looking back now, it’s hard to believe that so much came from one evening and one feeling:

Grateful for that day in Piazza Fontanesi, for GAST, and for everything that has grown from it. 🤍

Things that made me smile in the last month 🤍

I followed the feeling… and I’m so glad I did.

I found Sky Hut on Google and gave myself 5 days to step away.

Lately it’s been a lot of doing, a lot of thinking about what’s next… and honestly, it was starting to feel like I needed to have everything figured out right now.

So I paused.

No pressure to be anything other than exactly where where I was.

Just space
to reset
to reconnect
to feel really good in my body and life again.

This retreat reminded me how powerful that is.

nature, movement, real conversations, and people sharing what they love.

I came back with a new feeling of empowerment. Lighter… clearer… and more open to whatever is next.

I want to create more of this✨

Lately my mind has been stuck in the future…
trying to figure everything out all at once.

Spending this weekend in nature was a reminder I didn’t know I needed.

Sun on my face, colors everywhere, quiet moments with good people…
and just like that, I felt back in the present.

No pressure.
No timeline.
Just this moment 🤍
