My happy birthday!

This video will look familiar to Pilates lovers. Joseph Pilates used to have people stand on his stomach.

According to Robert Wernick’s Sports Illustrated article “To Keep In Shape: Act Like An Animal” from Feb. 12, 1962, Mr. Pilates greeted everyone by laying down “on his 80-year-old back,” commanding them to “step on me!”

And in an interview with Romana Kryzanowska, she tells writer John Briley (johnbriley.com) that Joseph Pilates would do this to show just how powerful the “powerhouse” was.

One of the most famous photos of Mr. Pilates is him standing on the stomach of Opera Singer Roberta Peters. I didn’t include it here to avoid copyright issues, but you can Google it - it’s all over the internet.
