Tate Press - The Forgotten Gem for Triceps

This is a killer. Odds are you've never done these, let alone seen the Tate Press. This is really easily done incorrectly, and honestly it isn't something that should be done by novice lifters and bodybuilders.

If you go about this right, the less weight you use, odds are the better response you'll get. I'm using 20lbs here, and it killed. I've seen people flop around 70s and 80s, and got literally nothing from it. Keep the weights together neutrally, pull the weights down keeping the shoulders tracked on the Bench. Your elbows will go to the sides, in line with the shoulder joints. Don't let your lats take the weight and pull your elbows down into the body, this will turn into a prison yard Press- totally different purpose and redundant to the purpose of the Tate Press here. Push the weights back up trying like hell to keep the weights together, pull your forearm back in place and converge the elbow and squeeze juice outta the Triceps. This is a solid movement for bodybuilders as well as strength training. Feel the burn and repeat to mechanical failure.

Here we have my client Gary learning to use his feet accurately after a double knee replacement, and is being treated for drop-foot. Abducting and adducting tension from a micro-mini band at an isosolese mid anchored angle to stimulate the peroneal nerves and glutes, and balancing the ankles, from abduction then reversed to adduction with the same foot. Here, he is navigating a baseball around the three cones with both feet, fighting through balance and footing issues.

All problems have solutions. We just have to rub some braincells together, work smart and hard. The goal is always progress, identifying issues and problems, and making a plan to become better. Push forward always, be patient and accurate, and navigate.

I am accepting clients at OSI with limited times. All walks of life are welcomed, and all goals are encouraged. Let's think outside of the box together and hit the ground running.
