Season opener at … and the new guys didn’t waste time.

Matt Casella shows up for his first BGC event and wins it. (-3 net 68)
No warmup phase, no “getting a feel for the league”… just took it.

Started steady on the back, stayed out of trouble, then separated late on the front when everyone else started dropping shots.

Right behind him, Jake Marianut (-1 net 70) making a statement. Part-time guy last year… now taking 2nd and beating out a lot of familiar names in the process. Just a steady, no-mistakes kind of round.

Josh Porto (+2 net 73) rounds out the top 3 with one of the better grinds of the day as things got messy across the board.

Starting on the back 9 showed early… a few doubles, some cold swings, and the leaderboard was wide open quick.
Front 9 is where it flipped.
Matt stayed clean… others didn’t. That was the difference.

KPs go to Jordan Deck (6) and Jameson Altier (12)
Skins getting paid early… Matt C (3), Al M (2), Kevin S (2)

Week 1 in the books and the vets are already chasing.

On to Boulder Creek tomorrow.
2-man best ball. Bring a partner… or find out you picked the wrong one.

BGL Recap

Perfect morning, tough track, and most the league in attendance at Valley of the Eagles 🦅⛳️

🔥 A Flight: Andy Kahl and Bobby Albino battled to the wire, tying at the top. Andy took it on a scorecard playoff—reminder to the league that if he showed up more often, the standings might look a little different 👀

🏆 B Flight: Brian Groves is back in the winner’s circle with a sharp net 68 (-4)—his 3rd win of the year. He’s starting to lap the field while Sean, Xavier, and Tyler keep stacking points and trying to chase him down.

The standings are tightening up… but the summer stretch is just heating up 🔥

BGL Major #2 – Ellsworth Meadows Recap 🇺🇸

Ellsworth delivered big-time swings and even bigger scorecards as Banter Golf League teed it up for the season’s 2nd Major.

In the A Flight, Josh Porto put on a clinic, firing an opening-round 65 on his way to finishing -5 for the event and locking down the title. Matt Fritz wasn’t far behind, posting a blistering 67 in Round 2 to climb into solo second at -1. Bobby Albino rounded out the podium, steadying the ship for a +2 finish.

The B Flight had fireworks of its own. Tyler Deblois came out hot with a 69 in Round 1, while Xavier Smerekovsky battled back with a clutch 71 in Round 2. Both finished at +6, forcing a scorecard playoff to decide the Major champ. Behind them, Brian Groves held steady with consistent rounds to secure third at +10.

The pressure of a Major brought out some of the best golf of the season so far – and set the stage for a wild run into the closing stretch of the BGL schedule.

⛳️ BGL Ashland Recap –

Ashland delivered a classic test—beautiful conditions after a wet week, but deceptive greens that looked fast and putted slow, turning every hole into a minefield of three-putts.
But a couple of players figured it out:
🔥 A Flight Winner – Andrew Kahl (Net 78, +6)
The only one in A Flight who kept it (mostly) clean on the greens. Navigated the minefield while the rest of the field practiced their lag putting drills.
🥈 The T2 Crew – Jordan Smerekovsky, Bobby Albino, Matt Fritz (80, +8)
A three-way tie for second and a three-way tie for “worst stories about leaving putts short.”

🔥 B Flight Winner – Xavier Smerekovsky (Net 71, −1)
Absolute clinic. Under par net while everyone else was penciling in 3-jacks from 20 feet. Took advantage of every stroke and made B Flight look like amateurs.
🥈 Sean Parsipour (77, +5) made a solid push but just couldn’t catch him.
🎯 KP on #6 – #10? No KP.
Nobody wanted that pin.

🍻 Beer Cart MVPs:
* Pat Butterfield and Dave Corrigan didn’t bother turning in cards after enjoying the round their way. Classic falling victim to the beer cart 🍻.
✅ Verdict? Ashland proved that even when it looks easy, it isn’t.

BGL – The Boulder Creek Best Ball 🏔️ Recap
Kevin Sokira turned in a great round, and with Nick Shellhorn by his side, the Friday birthday practice round paid massive dividends. The duo lit it up with 10 net birdies, perfectly capitalizing on their strokes to post a (-2) and take home the win.
Kenny Raymond proved to be a clutch wildcard pickup for Kyle Castro, as the paired team gelled quickly and rode that chemistry to a second-place finish (+2).
Cory Sussel had the round of the day, firing a gross 81, his best of the season. Early spring swing changes and lessons are clearly starting to click, helping him and Tyler Deblois (who is trending in the right direction) lock down third place (+3).

📍 KPs:
🎯 Matt Fritz – #4
🎯 Bobby Albino – #17

💰 Skins:
🦅 Brian Groves – #3
🦅 Xavier Smerekovsky – #5
🦅 Tom Kuczma – #6
🦅 Kevin Sokira – #7 & #17

Boulder Creek demanded patience and precision, but it was that 6–9 stretch that made all the difference for the champs. More updates and standings coming heading into the GreyHawk major! 👀

BGL - The Boulder Creek BestBall Bash ⛳️🔥
20 players. 10 squads. One big-time tune-up before major season. Let’s see who takes the team win this week!

Brian Groves used the first overall pick to take... Adam Weber? A gutsy pairing between two guys who’ve never met. Brian might be playing chess while the rest of us are slapping checkers.

Bobby Albino and Jordan Smerekovsky are longtime friends and proven contenders, expect steady play and steady chirps. Meanwhile, Matt Fritz went full villain and snatched Pat DiBlasio, forcing Cory Sussel to pivot and draft Tyler Deblois. Now Cory’s weekend task is twofold: drain putts and keep Tyler from mentally combusting when Boulder shows its teeth.

Xavier Smerekovsky and Thomas Kuzma are officially a pairing after their round at Good Park. Deck and Heine aren’t quite a bromance, but they’re calm and collected—expect mellow vibes, minimal drama, and maybe a sneaky leaderboard climb.

Shellhorn and Kevin are the silent assassins—no chirps, no frills, but they got a Boulder Creek practice round on Friday for Shellhorn’s birthday. That’s dedication (or maybe desperation).

Sean Parsipour linked up with wild card Alex Musnyczek for a random but potentially threatening pairing. Zack Harp got Dave Corrigan, if we’re lucky, he’ll trade debauchery in the group chat for some quality swing vids of Zack this time around. Kyle Castro and Kenny Raymond round out the field repping team good vibes.
