When Jim Brown retired following the 1965 season, the Cleveland Browns faced what seemed like an impossible task: replacing arguably the greatest running back in NFL history.

Enter Leroy Kelly.

Rather than living in Jim Brown's shadow, Kelly went on to build a Hall of Fame career of his own, proving that Cleveland's tradition of great running backs was far from over.

A six-time Pro Bowler and three-time First-Team All-Pro, Kelly led the NFL in rushing in both 1967 and 1968. He was a complete running back who combined speed, power, and elusiveness with the ability to catch passes and return kicks.

Over 10 seasons with the Browns, Kelly rushed for 7,274 yards and 74 touchdowns, cementing his place among the greatest players in franchise history. His remarkable career earned him induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1994.

Following a legend is never easy. Becoming one yourself is something special.

Leroy Kelly didn't just carry on the tradition of great Browns running backs. He helped define it.

Jerry Sherk was one of the most dominant defensive tackles in Cleveland Browns history and one of the best defensive linemen of the 1970s.

A second-round draft pick in 1970, Sherk spent his entire 12-year NFL career with the Browns, earning four Pro Bowl selections and NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors in 1976.

Known for his strength, quickness, and relentless play along the defensive line, Sherk was a cornerstone of the Browns defense throughout the decade. He earned the respect of teammates and opponents alike and established himself as one of the franchise's all-time great defensive players.

But this week's TAG Legends: Before the Gleam is a little more personal for me.

Jerry Sherk was my father's favorite Cleveland Browns player.

My love for the Browns started with my dad. Like so many Browns fans, I inherited more than just a favorite football team. I inherited a passion, a loyalty, and memories that connect one generation to the next.

And when I think about Jerry Sherk, I think about my dad and the love for Browns football he passed down to me.

That's what makes this series special. It's not just about remembering great football players. It's about remembering why they mattered to us.

Jerry Sherk. A Cleveland Browns legend, and a player who will always mean a little more to me.
