There's an appropriate way to train when you're young and vigorous. There's a proper way to train when you enter the advanced years of your life. There's an appropriate way to train when you're sick, and there's a proper way to train when it seems no workout works.
Constant training, always adjusting the goal to the means at hand at your disposal, is the only way to cultivate the true strength that transcends all limitations.

“The martial arts are not something you can learn. The starting point is your own effort and endurance, and if you do not realize this, no matter how many years you train and what grade you reach, you will lack the value perceptions of a martial artist. Without this self‑awareness, even l0th Dans are equivalent to people without either Dan or Kyu. This is the Shinken‑gata of the Bujinkan grades.”

These techniques don’t look like much. That’s the point. But when done correctly, are quite painful.

Indeed!
“ A great artist finds joy devoting his life to his work. In a trance, he forgets the self while pouring himself into his work and finds an eternal life there. Not only the artist, but we too must live our lives this way.
In order to do so, we must have a clear purpose in our daily life. If we live our daily lives with Sutemi, the mind of Budô, and the passion of an artist who pours his soul into his works, we can almost forget about death, and never regret our life at the moment of its end.”

Think on this. Budo is NOT SPORT!
“There is a tendency for modern martial artists not to do practicing by themselves. I used to practice by myself. When my teacher was not there, I found out the secret by myself.”

“When I teach students, the attitude I adopt is not to teach the latest trend or fad, but rather to notice in hindsight that it is the aspect of change that can never die out. This is the very action of Budô, it is known to all its practitioners as a kind of premonition; it is ever-evolving training. This training itself is the ever-changing transmission..”
