What a great evening on Cagles Mill Lake.

One thing I always tell folks is, you’re going to miss a thousand fish before you really get the feel for that bite. It’s all part of learning.

There’s an old saying in fishing… “If you’re not catching anything, it’s probably because you’re not holding your mouth right!” 🤣

Well, judging by these faces and the fish in the cleaning station, I’d say this crew figured out exactly how to hold their mouths.

The bells were ringing, rods were bending, fish were going in the bucket, and everyone was getting in on the action. 🔔🎣 Plenty of laughs and smiles along the way.

Good fishing, great company, and another evening well spent on the water.

What an awesome morning on Cagles Mill Lake with Grandpa, Grandma, and Grandson. 🤗❤️

The fish were biting, the rods were bending, and we put some really nice crappie in the boat. But the highlight of the morning was something this young man will never forget.

THE BIGGEST FISH OF HIS LIFE — A 37-POUND FLATHEAD CATFISH. 😳🐟

And here’s the kicker… he caught that monster on an Ol’ Blue Tackle Paddle Fry jig! Yep, a little crappie jig.

After a 15-minute battle and some serious patience, he finally got that giant into the boat. 💪🎣

NO MINNOWS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS FISHING TRIP.

We wrapped up the morning with plenty of fish for the dinner table, some great stories, and memories three generations will be talking about for years.

Thank you for spending your morning with me! It was a pleasure having all three of you aboard.

🎣 MATCH THE HATCH… AND DON’T BE AFRAID TO GO BIG! 💪

Think crappie only eat small baits? Think again!

Pictured are my favorite Ol Blue Tackle 2.25” and 3” Paddle Fry next to a 3.75” shad found inside a crappie we caught.

🎯ANGLER TIP: Before downsizing when the bite gets tough, try SLOWING DOWN!

The key is keeping your bait traveling parallel to the bottom or slowly falling, rather than constantly rising during your retrieve. Try keeping it just a few feet off the bottom, allowing it to rise as you bring it back toward the boat.

If crappie are feeding on 3–4” shad, don’t be afraid to throw a 3” plastic.

Sometimes it’s not the size of your bait that needs changing… it’s your presentation. 🎣

🎣🔥 Some Days It’s Fishing… Today Was CATCHING. 😂

This gentleman was visiting Indiana from Florida and wanted to try his luck on Cagles Mill Lake. Well, we sure gave him a trip to remember. 🎣

We finished with a solid 2-man limit of crappie, plus a bonus largemouth bass.

Everything came on SLABZ Crappie/ SLABZ ELITE Bass 6’6” or 12’ ft rods with Ol Blue Tackle 2.25” Paddle Fry rigged on 1/16 and 1/8 oz jigheads in 10 feet of water or less. The bite was light, but these fish had some SHOULDER. 💪🎣

Now, I don’t typically grab a net for crappie. My rule is simple: SWING ’EM IN THE BOAT. If they come off inside the boat, no big deal. Heck, I don’t even care if you hit me with the fish, as long as it lands in the boat.

Well… this gentleman took that advice to heart and fish-slapped me right in the face. 🤣🐟

Luckily, it was a light slap, and it was a GOOD ONE, so I’ll let it slide. 😜

🎣🥶 Chilly Morning, Steady Bite, and Some Good Times.

Not many action shots from this morning’s trip! It was a little chilly, and the fish kept us too busy to worry about taking pictures.

What a great father-and-son trip on Cagles Mill Lake! The crappie bite stayed steady, and we finished the morning just shy of a 3-man limit. 🔥

Plenty of laughs, bent rods, and some nice bags of fresh fillets to take home.

Cold mornings, good fishing, and quality time together. That’s what it’s all about.

This time of year, the scenery changes almost daily as the leaves turn beautiful shades of red, orange, and yellow before falling. 🍁🍂 And with the waterfalls flowing, it’s quite a sight to see.

Pack a lunch, grab your favorite person, or just enjoy a little peaceful time to yourself and make a day of it.

There are beautiful walking trails, nice picnic areas, incredible views, and plenty of opportunities to take pictures and enjoy Mother Nature.

One little favor: Please pack out what you pack in, and maybe bring an extra trash bag in case someone else left something behind. A little kindness goes a long way toward keeping these beautiful places enjoyable for everyone. 🤗
