What nobody tells you about bariatric surgery in year six.
They told you the surgery would change your life.
They were right.
They just didn't tell you which parts.
They didn't tell you that year six looks nothing like year one.
That the restriction is mostly gone.
That the honeymoon phase ended three years ago.
That you'd be standing in your kitchen at 10pm negotiating with yourself again.
That the habits you ignored after surgery would eventually catch up.
That the scale moving up ten pounds would send you into a spiral you thought you were done having.
Nobody tells you that the surgery changed your stomach.
It didn't automatically change your habits.
Your patterns.
Your behaviors.
The same person who became morbidly obese is still in there.
Same fears.
Same coping mechanisms.
Same tendency to put everyone else first until there's nothing left.
Six years out, this isn't a surgery problem anymore.
It's a habits, patterns, and behaviors problem.
And that's actually good news.
Because habits can be changed.
Patterns can be identified.
Behaviors can be rewired.
You are not broken.
You are not the exception.
You are simply running a system that was never updated after surgery.
What's the part of year six nobody prepared you for?
