Angler's Covey

Angler's Covey

This is Jake doing what he really loves, playing fetch. His next favorite thing is fishing. He tears around like a maniac, licks fish prior to release and jumps in where I am tying to cast. He also makes friends with other fishermen.
What do you guys think of my representation of a small kokanee
Did I miss who won the waffle? 😃
Went to get tickets too late. First time we will miss this show since it got started. So sad.
Give these jigs a try. Best I have ver used.
This just came up as a memory from our 2015 trip. Rosemount reservoir with Earl Hecker. We caught 16 before the lightning forced us out of the water.
My family is coming out to the area the third week of June. I would like to try Eleven mile canyon for fishing with my 11 year old son. Is it possible to get on some fish using ultra lites?? Or is this area better served with fly fishing?? We did pikes peek last june Crystal creek reservoir but no luck. Thanks Scott

SPINNEY IS OPENING! Ice has come off Spinney and we are opening Saturday, April 27th, at 5:09 am! The first 250 people get our cool, free commemorative sticker. Make sure your boat is #CleanDrainedDry to make getting through the mandatory ANS inspection station faster. Boats can only be launched from the North Ramp due to low water levels. if you do not have a boat, please use our south side to make room on the North Ramp for our boaters. We are planning to open #ElevenMileReservoir on Monday, April 29th to boating. A separate announcement will be made for Eleven Mile Reservoir's boating opening. Things to remember: Spinney is one of 3 cherished gold medal reservoirs, so only artificial flies and lures are permitted. Bag and possession limit is one trout 20" or longer. Unlimited pike and perch, but they cannot be wasted. Spinney is day use only and opens 30 mins before sunrise and closes 30 mins after sunset. There is a mandatory ANS inspection upon entrance and exit for boaters. Live wells must be clean, drained and dry. All coolers are subject to inspection to ensure compliance with fishing possession limits. #SpinneyOpening2019 #SpinneyReservoir #ElevenMileStatePark #ElevenMileCPW

20 - 60% off ALL sportswear!

20 - 60% off ALL sportswear! - At some point nearly every summer talk turns to water temperatures.  And rightly so.  In Colorado, and in cold water fisheries in general, fish thrive when water temps are in the 50-60 degree range.  As we approach the end of summer,  it’s vital to pay attention to the conditions around us...

The 2020 “20 Days in September” Contest Kicks Off Today! - Orvis News

One the funnest annual contests has arrived!
A really good excuse to fish for 30 days straight. Although meteorological summer doesn’t end for another three weeks, the kids are heading back to school, summer hours at work are nearly over, and the nights are growing increasingly crisp. It’s a time to . . .

Today the flows in 11 mile canyon and the Dream stream have dropped to around 65cfs. This is due to a project by Denver Water. These flows will maintain into November. With the low flows high water temps will become an issue. Use this chart along with your thermometer if you are fishing these locations. If we all do our part to protect the fishery, it will be stronger than ever.

Drum roll, please.
We have our winners in the Dog Days Photo Contest.
1st Place: Dan Schumacher / Otis (Guided trip, TU dog collar, Angler's Covey t-shirt)
2nd Place: Madeline Hoeppner / Abbot (TU dog collar, AC t-shirt)
3rd Place: Lindsay Boone / Lilly (AC t-shirt)
4th Place: AJ Gamboa / Crosby (AC t-shirt)
5th Place: Meggen Burghardt / Poppins (AC t-shirt)

That time of the year..
It’s wise to take water temps pretty much everywhere right now. If the water temps are above 65 degrees, then don’t fish!

ANGLER ALERT! Due to low oxygen and warm water temps, fish in the Arkansas River from the Pueblo Reservoir dam east to Interstate 25 are under extreme stress.

@COParksWildlife is issuing a VOLUNTARY FISHING CLOSURE on that stretch of river until conditions improve.

We urge anglers to avoid the Arkansas River from Pueblo Reservoir dam to I-25 & fish high country waters. Oxygen levels are dangerously low for fish & water temps are rising. At higher elevations, water temp & dissolved oxygen levels are better.

Have you heard of the Trico?!

Have you heard of the Trico?! - Tricos prefer cold water and silty, weedy areas in deeper pools on the river. The hatches are fairly predictable, with water and air temperature being the key to the hatch. The morning to mid-morning is typically the best time to witness these hatches. This is followed by the “spinner fall” when...

Great News! The House passed the Great American Outdoors Act! By a vote of 310-107, approving $900 million in annual funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and $12 million to address the deferred maintenance backlog on federal public lands. This is a huge win for everyone who loves our outdoor spaces!

Thank you everyone who advocated on this with our legislators. Your voice matters.

More Coloradans Are Fishing This Year, In Part Because Of The Pandemic

Thanks to everyone who has found fly fishing as an amazing way to escape the stress of the world around us. Colorado Parks and Wildlife is reporting a massive boom in fishing license sales in the first half of this year.

It’s that time of the year that all fly fishers look forward to. The time when we squint our eyes and frantically throw size 24 dry flies to rising trout. The Trico (pronounced TREE-co, often mispronounced as TRY-co) is a small mayfly prevalent from about mid-July to late September. Jon Easdon, Director of Services, writes about the Trico on our blog:

NEW Dry Fly Clinic Added...grab your spot!

NEW Dry Fly Clinic Added...grab your spot! - Most of our local rivers and streams look pretty healthy right now regarding flows and temperatures.  Denver Water is managing the flows as they work toward getting reservoirs to 100% full.  As of this writing, the flow out of Elevenmile Reservoir through the Canyon is 246 cubic feet per second (c...
