Bubba started jiu jitsu about a month ago, and I had no idea what to expect.

Sure, I thought it was going to help with focus and definitely with helping get energy out. It is NOT for the weak that’s for sure.

Not only do Adam and Nico get to experience this together, but I swear it’s helped with the difficult transition to 5! At 5 they demand independence while also afraid of not being a little kid anymore. They want to assert their own power, and be confident in doing so.

This, from a parents end, looks like disrespect, monster meltdowns and attitude.

We started jiu jitsu (not really because of these, it just worked out like this) and I can tell you that I have seen so much growth in him maturity wise. It’s brought up so many opportunities for conversations on how to be a good partner/teammate by not gloating, + cheering each other on. By making him become accountable for his own behaviors- despite what others are doing, encouraging him to always do what’s right. (And we’ve seen him do it!!)

Physically, he’s grown so much in strength and stamina, and become “tougher”. He can do things with his body that I thought would take him so much longer to master in just days. He goes 5/6 days a week and LOVES it!

He knows names and all steps for at least 10 take downs, arm bars + chokes. But most of all, the mixed ages of kiddos from 5-12 are like a family. They all encourage each other and help each other.

After just a month he already earned his first stripe 😭 and he is so proud!

This has been the best thing for Nico and Adam. BJJ is so much more than a sport.

Happy Fourth of July 🇺🇸

We’ve got the wonders of the USA shine a light book and History of the USA book! We’ll be doing a couple more activities today to celebrate. 🙂

𝗖𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀:
𝟭. Yesterday we painted over our oil pastels that we drew “fireworks” on with black water color. It pops so well and is such a simple activity!

𝟮. We also did “fireworks in a jar”. All you need is a small jar/plate with oil and drops of food coloring on it (and mix together some with a fork), then a large see through glass jar with warm water.

Pour the oil/food coloring mixture into the water jar and watch the color separate from the oil and spread out like a firework in the sky 😍

Check this site for more fun craft ideas for the fourth:

3. We tie dyed shirts! 🥳

Anyone else do any fun crafts?!

I just love this. It’s so neat how everyone learns differently; and also why we shouldn’t give up if one way doesn’t work for our children.

I’d say I’m a visual and kinesthetic learner. If you tell me numbers i jumble them all up; but if I see them I can memorize them!

If you tell me how to make something— I’ll really have trouble figuring it out unless I can see a video— BUT the best way is to have me DO it.

What’s the best way you learn? Or that your child learns?
