It's Water Safety Month, but it's also lake and river season, so let's go over some open-water-related tips!

💧Children, inexperienced swimmers and all boaters should wear properly fitted US Coast Guard approved lifejackets on boats or around open water even if you don’t intend to go in the water.
💧Check for environmental hazards like water depth, underwater hazards, and currents.
💧Understand that different bodies of water present unique risks, such as fast moving river currents under the surface of the water; underwater hazards like riprap, submerged trees and vegetation; dangerously cold-water temperature; and ocean rip currents.

Donner Aquatic Center opens THIS Saturday – we can't wait to see you at the pool this summer! A few reminders to make sure your trip to the pool is as fun as possible:

• If you or your child is ill, please do not use the pool.
• Children who are not toilet trained must wear a swim diaper.
• Do not drink pool water.
• Smoking or va**ng is not permitted in the aquatic center or on the concrete area in front of the main entrance.

A full set of pool rules is available at the front desk of Donner Aquatic Center.

May is Water Safety Month, and with Donner Aquatic Center opening soon, let's talk about lifejackets!

Children and inexperienced swimmers should wear properly fitted US Coast Guard approved lifejackets around water. Not all U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets perform the same way. Some will rotate a person so they are face up if they become unconscious and some will not, so check the label to be sure it is appropriate for your planned activities and the water conditions you expect to encounter; ensure it fits properly; and test its performance so you are comfortable with how it fits and functions. Infants and younger children should wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket with both a collar for head support and a strap between the legs.
