There are enough kind people in this word.
Unfortunately, we are a little lazy about it sometimes.

Too many kind people trudge through their day thinking a smile or an “excuse me” as you pass someone in the grocery store is enough to “be kind”.

I get it, we’re tired.
Fatigued by
 everything.

Now though, more than ever, we need to fuel each other with positivity. It doesn’t take much to leave a lasting positive mark on someone’s soul.

I was in the grocery store going through the mundane motions of checking out. The young cashier stops scanning my stuff, looks at me long enough for me to look up at her, and then says “you are REALLY pretty”.

That’s it.
I think I stammered “thank you” or something like that (while thinking she’d lost her mind because I knew I looked like roadkill after a particularly hard day). We finished the transaction.

The thing is
this exchange happened four months ago, and I still think about it from time to time.

Another time, a young couple came up to me in town and said they remembered me from years ago and thanked me for helping them.

I had no memory of who they were, so I asked. Once they told me the story, I remembered:

They brought their hurt dog to the shelter where I worked at the time. It had just been attacked, and they had no money for a vet and were panicked.

What I did for them wasn’t anything special. It was honestly not a big deal. I just did what I could in the moment for them
I helped them clip and clean the wound and sent them on their way.

That non-event for me was an act of kindness for them
one that they still remembered TEN YEARS LATER.

That’s the ripple effect, people.
It’s powerful.
It lasts long after you remember doing it.

So, I challenge you today.
Do it!
Say something random and kind to a stranger.
Challenge a friend to do the same.

“I like your hair.”
“Cool tattoo.”
“Your smile is great.”
Anything.

Watch peoples’ reactions when you say something positive to them.

The power is yours to create joy
and Lord knows we all could use more joy these days.

So many of you have lost precious loved ones recently, or are planning to.
Family and pets.

Some of the best horses I’ve ever known have left for greener pastures this year, this week.

I was too weak to be there for a couple I would have otherwise wanted to. I tried, and it choked me.
The loss. It compounds.

I don’t go to funerals anymore. I can’t.
It isn’t selfish to protect what little đŸ”„ I have left in my own soul.
I grieve. I grieve alone and with friends. But we grieve in private. We grieve in private because we grieve so hard. Because it is daily.
For our fathers, our brothers, our pets, children
..

We know it doesn’t matter to the world, but it matters to us.

Your horses matter to me. And the people I love, even if I didn’t know your family, I hate to see you hurting. I hate that you’re losing someone so close. So important to who you are as a being

The world is hurting.
So many want to pretend it’s all fine, and we can stay positive and try to hope for that, but

I know it’s not fine. I know here in this moment you wish they were here. I’m here for the real people. We can admit. It’s not fine, it’s “fine-enough” we go on.

I know plans were different.

I know you had things to share with them.

I know for a good soul, two legged or four, naked or furry, that no length of time is enough.

Major, Dolly, Chief, Radish- and many more this year and prior.
Our fathers . Past lives. People we thought we knew. Grieve all of it. It isn’t meant to be forgotten. But life goes on.
