Exercise form matters! Here’s 3 reasons why⬇️

1. Better gains: Lifting with proper form is the most efficient way to build muscle and strength. Work smarter, not harder!

2. Bad form = higher injury risk: It’s easier than you’d think to injure yourself while lifting. This can happen suddenly or an injury can develop over time with improper form.

3. How you lift is how to move outside the gym, and vice versa. Think of how often we squat throughout the day: standing up from a chair/couch/toilet, putting dishes away, picking stuff up off the ground, etc. and if you don’t know how to squat properly, all of those tasks feel more challenging and have a higher injury risk. Every single movement done in daily life can be improved and strengthened if practiced properly in the gym.

Next time you're in the gym, focus on lifting better, not just more. And if you're someone who really likes to push yourself, remember that technical failure provides just as much of a challenge as muscular failure (that is, lift until you can't maintain good form, not until you can't lift the weight period)!

PSA: it's ok to work out when you're sore! Current research indicates that muscle soreness the day after a workout results from your nerves responding to micro trauma in your fatigued muscles. Light to moderate physical activity may actually lessen your symptoms for a bit. Try going for a walk if you're sore from leg day! 🚶‍♀️ And the more consistently active you are, the less likely you are to get sore in the first place.
