Every once in a while, you encounter a buck that just leaves you speechless. This is one of those deer! 🦌🔥
I watched this incredible Texas Hill Country buck last night, and I’m almost certain he’s only 4½ years old. The mass, tine length, frame… he’s already bigger than most of the 6½- to 8½-year-old bucks we see on this ranch!
I had every opportunity to take him, but I just couldn’t do it. Not because he isn’t big enough, but because I believe his best years are still ahead of him.
There’s no guarantee I’ll ever see him again, and that’s what makes these decisions so difficult. But after nearly three decades of hunting this low-fence country, I’ve learned that sometimes the most rewarding decision is simply watching one walk away.
I can only imagine what this buck could become with another couple of years!
What would you have done? Would you have let him walk?
