Here is a snippet of a conversation I had with a client today. When they signed up, they stated their right knee is missing just about all its cartilage, and in my initial assessment they had no more than half the ROM in each knee. They’ve been my client for about seven weeks now, and the change is quite remarkable. Their ROM is more than doubled (they can squat now whereas before it was a non starter), and more importantly they can start to see a future where they can enjoy the things they want to without their body hindering them. Also, their attitude did a 180. The words “I can’t” have been erased from their vocabulary. They WANT their goals now, and aren’t afraid to push their comfort zone to get them. This is why I became a coach, and this is why most coaches become coaches - to unlock the body’s potential to help make possible what was once impossible.

Three miles of sprint work for today. For runners, regularly scheduled sprinting drills will over time increase both power and speed, improve endurance on long runs, increase calorie burn, and increase muscle size. Throughout the sprints I paid special attention to form, as it is paramount for effective sprinting and will transfer to my regular runs: torso tilted slightly forward, feet falling directly below the hips with the balls of the feet striking the ground first, and pulling the back foot forward via the lower abdominals. If you are interested in getting started in your fitness journey, I’d love to work with you, either in person or online. DM me for more details.

Two runs, two days apart. Weather conditions were nearly identical, save for a little less wind on the Wednesday run. Vastly different results. For the Monday run, I was done in by a poor night’s sleep and poor fueling the day before and leading up to the run, coupled with my usual sensitivity to dry air below 50 degrees. For the Wednesday run, I was much closer to my current pacing.
Two takeaways that I want to share:
1) Never underestimate the importance of what you do outside your exercise routine. Being healthy is a lifestyle, and more factors go into our overall health than just the hour or so spent exercising each day.
2) Some days you’re just not at your best, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Though I was able to enumerate my poor performance on the Monday run, that isn’t always the case. Progress isn’t linear like we expect it to be, and there are going to be bad, frustrating days, but each one is a learning experience, and even though you hated your performance it still beats sitting on the sidelines. Have faith in the process. I’d love to help you get started on your fitness journey or help you through some of those bad days. DM me for more info.

You’ve probably heard this song before. If not, I’d recommend checking it out, or at least reading the lyrics. The songwriter laments the ho hum status of life the world currently offers him and wants to seek a higher plane. All too often we submit to a life of compromises, especially when it comes to our bodies. We accept weight gain and muscle loss. We accept reduced mobility. We accept having to start taking blood pressure and cholesterol meds. We accept all these things as “getting older”, and we assume our paths are carved in stone from now until our last breath. I’m here to tell you: stop accepting ordinary. You are meant for more. You can transform your body into a finely tuned machine capable of anything, and I’d like to help you. Feel free to DM me for more information.
