Do you drink enough water?
Did you know that the human body is nearly 60% water! Most of that water is contained in our cells with lean tissue holding more water than fatty tissue. 💦
In America, we tend to view thirst as a secondary need to hunger. In truth, Hunger should be considered second to thirst. Why? Your body can survive 3 weeks without food and only 3 days without water.
But let’s get real for a minute...
Many have become hesitant to drink the amount of water needed because running 🏃♀️🏃🏽♂️ to the restroom to p*e is inconvenient. Somewhere along the way, it became unacceptable to take multiple bathroom breaks during the work day. Instead, we’ve trained ourselves to drink a glass of water in the morning, another at lunch, one at dinner, and one an hour or two before bed. That’s approximately 32oz of water. And unless you weigh 64lbs, that’s not enough. (Drinking approximately 1/2 your body weight in ounces is ideal.)
Believe it or not, people begin to feel thirsty when they have already lost around 2-3% of their body's water. You know when you can feel the water move from your mouth to your stomach? That happens because your body is severely dehydrated. If you’re looking to stay on top of your mental and physical performance, drink water because you become impaired in those areas when you’re around 1% dehydrated.
And we haven’t even talked about what happens to a body that’s in a constant state of dehydration. (Most Americans.) Our joints can ache, we can have issues with thinking and reasoning, digestive problems, constipation, and an overly acidic stomach which increases the risk of heartburn and stomach ulcers, kidney stones are more prevalent, toxins build up, blood pressure increases, and we have a difficult time ridding our body of unwanted fat.
Speaking of ridding your body of fat, your body will have a very difficult time releasing fat cells when it is battling so many of the issues listed above. And fat cells are extremely hard for the body to release when they’re filled with toxins. Your body will first release the toxins, then break down the fat cell. Often, that’s why you’ll see someone hit a plateau before they shed the remaining weight. They need to focus on detox with fat loss and water is key.
To help get this key, water consumption, in, here are a few easy steps to take!
1) DRINK BEFORE YOU EAT
Drinking a glass of water before a meal is quite common in other countries. Not only does this practice help you feel more full, but it will also aide in digestion, and is an easy way to get a full glass in daily.
2) CARRY AROUND A LARGE WATER BOTTLE
There are many water bottle options to choose from. I highly recommend investing in one that contains 24oz or more. It’s far easier to consume 4 large bottles a day, assuming you weight 200lbs, than it is to consume 12 small ones.
3) USE AN APP
Using an app can be a fun and convenient way to track your water consumption. Download Daily Water Free or Carbodroid to your phone. Through these apps, you can set daily reminders and alarms.
4) CONSUME A NATURAL DETOXIFIER
Choose a program with the ability to GENTLY daily detox our bodies. (See the system I use in the comments).
5) CHANGE THE WAY YOU THINK
Let’s change the way we think about water and urination! 😉 Let’s celebrate those cells being healthy! Let’s celebrate those toxins being excreted! AND Celebrate drinking enough water to need to p*e! 🙌
