FIFA Gives Conditions for NFF Election

FIFA has outlined key conditions that must be met before substantive elections can be held for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), following the proposed reforms of the football governing body.

According to an exclusive report by owngoalnigeria, the development followed a meeting between senior officials of the National Sports Commission (NSC) and FIFA officials at the world football governing body’s headquarters in Zurich.

The NSC delegation briefed FIFA on plans to reform the NFF after the resignation of members of the Ibrahim Musa Gusau-led board, including former General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi.

FIFA reportedly approved the proposed reforms but stipulated conditions that must be fulfilled before a new substantive NFF board can be elected.

Under the arrangement, a normalization committee is expected to oversee the affairs of the NFF for approximately six months to one year.

The NSC will nominate the chairman and other members of the committee, but their appointments will be subject to FIFA’s integrity checks.

FIFA will also be responsible for the welfare of the committee members throughout their tenure.

However, FIFA has made it clear that no member of the normalization committee will be allowed to contest the subsequent election for substantive positions on the NFF board.

The condition has reportedly prompted some individuals interested in the NFF chairmanship to reconsider their plans, with some said to have withdrawn their ambitions.
