Kara Voss Yoga & Fitness

Kara is a NASM-Certified Personal Trainer & Corrective Exercise Specialist. She is also Certified Yoga Teacher teaching since 2011. Kara has been practicing yoga for 20 years and teaching since 2011.

She received her teacher certification from the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre and did further training at the Himalayan Iyengar Yoga Centre in India. Kara is also certified as an instructor in Somatic Meditation by the Dharma Ocean Foundation. After having taught yoga and meditation in Mexico and Guatemala for several years, she recently relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico. In addition to teaching yoga, she is also studying to be a Certified Personal Trainer. Kara brings to her private and group classes a passion for yoga as a holistic health care system that balances body, mind, and spirit in order to achieve optimal physical and psychological well-being. Through her open and flexible approach to teaching, Kara invites each student to develop a more intimate relationship with their bodies, minds, and hearts. Her classes are open to all skill levels (from beginners to long-time practitioners), with more challenging variations and modifications regularly being demonstrated and explained along with the basics. She is continually inspired by seeing people of all ages, sizes, and physical abilities benefit from a regular yoga and meditation practice.

My garden is producing an abundance of kale right now, so I decided to make one of my favorite healthy snacks- KALE CHIPS!! Low-carb, packed with nutrients, and delicious! A great alternative to corn or potato chips! Best part of all, they are SUPER easy to make (recipe below) -- KALE YEAH!!!

HOW TO MAKE KALE CHIPS:

Prep:10 mins

Cook: 10 mins

Total:20

Original recipe yields 6 servings

Ingredients:
1 bunch kale
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon seasoned salt (try garlic salt!)

Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a non insulated cookie sheet with parchment paper.

With a knife or kitchen shears carefully remove the leaves from the thick stems and tear into bite size pieces. Wash and thoroughly dry kale with a salad spinner. Drizzle kale with olive oil and sprinkle with seasoning salt.

Bake until the edges brown but are not burnt, 10 to 15 minutes

Yoga is my passion and working with students like Erika is why I continue to teach after 8 years. As a former gymnast and now coach, she knows that training the body and mind takes commitment, dedication, and the willingness to train even on the days you don't feel like it.

And so it is with Yoga, which - when taken seriously- is fundamentally a life-long practice that includes a journey into an endless well of philosophy, techniques, and knowledge. It is a practice that can help heal our body, free our mind, and strengthen our connection with our heart.

But to reap these benefits we must first show up on our mat and put the time and energy into our practice. We must be willing to sit with uncomfortable physical sensations, emotions, and mental states. About Kara

Kara is a Certified Yoga Instructor, Certified Meditation Instructor, NASM-Certified Personal Trainer, and NASM- Corrective Exercise Specialist. She has been practicing yoga for 20 years and teaching since 2011. She received her teaching certification from the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre in Grass Valley, CA. She also studied Iyengar yoga and Buddhist meditation in the Himalaya region of India. Kara is also certified as an instructor in Somatic Meditation by the Dharma Ocean Foundation and maintains a regular meditation practice. After having taught yoga and meditation in Mexico and Guatemala for several years, she returned to the States and became a Certified Personal Trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She specializes in Corrective Exercise, helping her clients prevent and rehabilitate from injuries, muscle imbalances, and chronic pain. As a trainer, she has also helped dozens of people lose weight, get stronger, increase mobility, have more energy and increase their confidence.

Before diving deep into the world of yoga, meditation, and fitness, Kara spent almost a decade performing and practicing circus & fire arts. She co-founded and was the artistic director of a traveling non-profit circus that toured places like India, Peru, and the U.S. to bring the joy of the circus to struggling communities free of charge. Originally known as the Dreamtime Circus, this organization later merged with similar groups in the San Francisco Bay Area to become Living Dream Arts (more info at www.LivingDreamArts.org). LDA continues to bring smiles to those in difficult circumstances, most recently performing for migrant communities along the Mexican border.

Through her numerous years of experience as a yoga, dance, and fitness instructor, Kara has developed an open and flexible approach to teaching and training. Her focus is on each student developing a deeper, more positive relationship with their bodies, minds, and hearts and achieving their own personal vision of optimal health and well-being.
