Incredible story about an amazing human, and fellow runner...
Cancer Nearly Took His Life. But the New York Marathon Awaited.
Almost a year ago to the day, the elite runner Tommy Rivers Puzey learned to sit up in a bed again. On Sunday, he attempted the New York City Marathon.

Congrats to our friend Judd Shutt for reaching the FIVE YEAR mark of his daily running streak!! Many of our RUN-19 Virtual Run group celebrated Judd's milestone by running a 5k today. Amazing job by all including some first timers and a TON of personal bests!

Awesome to see so many people running lately in an effort to stay active during this odd time!
ππ°π’π€π©πͺπ―π¨ ππͺπ±: With the goal of injury prevention AND increased running performance, it's always a great idea to do a quick Dynamic Warm-up before your runs (and save static stretching for π’π§π΅π¦π³πΈπ’π³π₯π΄). ESPECIALLY if you're just getting back into the swing of things.
ππ¬π‘ππ ππ πͺππ₯π -π¨π£: We don't want to fatigue muscles ahead of a run, but we do want to warm up our bodies for improved range of motion and increased elasticity of tendons & ligaments. Warm-ups also raise our heart rate in preparation for the run and start the process of oxygen delivery to our muscles. They can also reinforce proper form when done correctly!
The list of dynamic warm-up drill options are almost endless, but here are some basics:
LEG SWINGS (side to side & front to back)
HIP CIRCLES
ARM CIRCLES
CARIOCAS
BUTT KICKS
LUNGES (more advanced)
SUMO SQUATS (more advanced)
Stay healthy, and take the time to warm-up!

With circumstances as they are and races getting canceled everywhere, it's increasingly difficult to stay motivated.
Join us for our RUN-19 Virtual Relay and keep moving!!
It's FREE!
HOW IT WORKS :
We will have 2 teams (or more). Each team will have a captain who keeps everyone organized - or at least try.
Run, Skip, or Walk for 19 minutes wherever you can - Outside if you can, at home on a treadmill, or even around your living room!!.
You will be on the hook for one activity every other day.
Track activity with your Garmin or fitness app and record distance on our google sheet.
The team with the most total mileage wins!
Posting stat screenshots and pictures = bonus mileage!
If you want to run more than 19 minutes - like 30 (or 3 hours) that's awesome but you're only getting credit here for 19 mins (just take your average pace from the run and calculate the distance for 19 minutes).
1st place team gets .... drum roll please.... slightly more pride than the other teams!!
HAVE FUN!
***UPDATE: Virtual Relay will start SUNDAY 3/29 for a period of one week, and go from there***
