We've had an issue with this company. Booked online Feb 21, 2022. They took a $50 deposit. Then they called and said they overbooked and had to cancel us. We STILL don't have a refund of the $50 deposit. Really poor customer service. We'd really like to have our deposit back. We had tried to book ecotour as well as manatee tour.

I am trying to plan a trip with my 8 year old son. I have never been so I am looking for things to do after the manatee tour and places to stay. (Hotel/airbnb). What are great restaurant recommendations? Is there anything else to do around there? (We are going in January so it will be sort of chilly) what are things we should bring?
Have you ever experienced our "Hidden Florida"? Crystal River Manatees offers great adventures with manatees. They show you exactly what to do to get the most out of the experience and it's not far from Orlando! A little tip: Go when the weather is cooler. The manatees are more active.
Greetings, What are the best months to see the Manatees or are they always there? We are planning on May 1-3 to be there

Florida manatees enjoy warmer waters and are known to congregate in shallow waters, and frequently migrate through brackish water estuaries to freshwater springs. Manatees have a low metabolic rate that does not protect them in cold water. Prolonged exposure to water temperatures below 68 °F (20 °C) can bring about "cold stress syndrome" and death.

Manatees have a large upper lip that is used to gather food and eat, as well as communications and social interactions. Manatees have eyelids that close in a circular motion. They are believed to see in color. Manatees typically have about 6 teeth in each jaw and it's tail is paddle shaped. They are noted for their paddle like flippers and their very friendly nature.

Most Florida manatees depend on localized warm-water refuges in the southern two-thirds of Florida to survive the winter. About 60% use the warm water discharge from 10 power plants, whereas 15% use 4 natural warm-water springs. Future availability of these refuges is in doubt; most of these power plants may be retired within the next 20 years and groundwater withdrawals for human use could threaten our natural springs. A scary thought indeed.

Manatees are well represented in Florida's fossil record. Their remains date back to prehistoric times and they are one of the more common vertebrate fossils known from ancient marine deposits.

The early colonists were quick to appreciate the species and described how the natives once hunted manatees.

In 1893, the state of Florida passed legislation that prohibited killing manatees. The West Indian manatee, including both the Florida and Antillean sub-species, were further protected in 1972 and 1973 with both the Federal Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act. Florida further protected the Florida manatee through state endangered species legislation and eventually through the Florida Manatee Sanctuary Act in 1978.

We all cherish the time we get to swim with manatees. They’re so friendly, curious and gentle. They’re downright adorable. We respect their struggle for existence. We all hope that they continue to flourish for generations to come!

When visiting Florida, come to Crystal River and swim with manatees in the wild. It’s an extraordinary adventure and something you’ll never forget!

The Florida Manatee is a large marine mammal that lives in the tropical and sub-tropical waters of the southeastern United Sates, particularly springs, rivers and coastal waters of the state of Florida. Manatees are fully aquatic, very gentle and slow moving. They are herbivorous and are know to eat over 60 different species of plants.

Manatees are curious and playful by nature. Especially the younger ones. They enjoy swimming with us almost as much as we enjoy them!

Come swim with the manatees this summer. It's a boat load of fun that you'll never forget!

Myth-busting manatees

The gentle giants cruising Florida's waterways are one of the state's most beloved creatures. On the surface, they may seem like slow, gray lumps grazing on sea grass but there is more than meets the eye with the ancient anatomical and ancestral traits still visible in manatees today.

Sea cows or sea elephants?

So-called sea cows should really be nicknamed sea elephants. West Indian manatees did not evolve from elephants; however, they did descend from a group of common ancestors. Manatees ...

The cooler temperatures across our area has brought hundreds of manatees into the bay and around the springs. As the weather gets colder, more and more manatees will be looking for warmer water to stay alive. Please stay alert, and keep your boat speeds minimal, while out on the water.
