GA Thunderbolts 2030 Corbin

It's late on Sunday night... But what a weekend for the Bolts!

It's hard to really capture what the girls have done the past cpl weeks in a short summary, so I'm going to have to leave most of it on the cutting room floor.

But will start with what an amazing TEAM these girls are.

A sudden flurry of injuries and unavailabilities hit at Pitcher, leaving us with just 2 healthy pitchers at the start of today's Triple Crown College Showcase. And in the very first game, one took a ball to the knuckle on her pitching hand (immediately swelling and stiffening) and to start Game 4, the other took a rocket to the ankle that would put most out for the tourney. But Riley and Laney iced up, taped up, and returned to the fight for their teammates... Delivering 22 & a 1/3rd innings of gusty softball this weekend when there were no pickups, were no backup plans.

This coming off of the last tourney, which saw us down a catcher, and Carys catching 5 games in the hottest tourney of the year, allowing Addi to man 2B and keep our defense at its highest level in that 6-game run.

Our 3-1-1 outing at this week's Showcase was great, but the best part is having a group of girls who are just dawgs. It's a "next man up" mentality across all positions. Only, you also know the first man is coming right back, cuz they refuse to stay down.

Defensive shoutout to Emerson, Delaney & Addi for an incredible weekend up the middle.
Offensive shoutouts to Addi, Olivia, Carys, Laney, Keira, Erin, & Madison who have just hit and hit and hit.

What's the secret to coaching? Get blessed with great players like them.

Never a bad time for a Homerun shoutout! Congrats to Carys Gilbert on her game tying 3-Run nuke in the bottom of the final inning of Game 1 against Impact! That knock would later prove to be the tiebreaker that put us into the Gold 1-Seed at last weekend's USSSA 💪

Just getting home at midnight on a Sunday's not the most fun, but still had a great day at the fields.

The girls did everything well today. Pitching & defense were lights out per usual, as they held opponents to just 1.67 Runs/Game with 10 Total Runs across 6 Games.

4-1-1 in all, and a trip to the ship where the other team held us down with some great defense of their own.

It's been a great 3 week stretch coming out of the break. Looking foward to an off-week this weekend, and a strong finish as we head into the last leg.

Special weekend for the girls this week.

We played in PGF's big spring event at the Georgia Oaks, where some of the top teams in the country (many of the best from Georgia, Tennessee, & Alabama) were in attendance.
We split the pool with an even 1-1-1 showing against Impact, Athletics Gold Tamborra, and Unity. Once again doing enough with Pitching & Defense to carry the day and earn our division's 2-Seed and a trip to the Gold Bracket.

There we drew a rematch of a great game ending in a 1-0 loss vs an incredible Vipers team from last week's tourney. Though this time they capitalized on pair of uncommon errors, and like elite teams can do, took advantage of their second chances with two base clearing HRs that blew the game open and sent us home on their way to Gold Gold.

..Walking up the park sidewalk as the sun was beginning to rise on Day 2 was a pretty special experience this morning. It was quite a site entering the fields...

Tennessee's Fury, Birmingham's Bolts, Impact Caymol, Althletics Gold, and Atlanta's Vipers were just a few among many of the Southeast's top teams in our field competing for Gold.

In a journey that has seen the girls overcome so much to accomplish so many rare local team feats... This morning's sun rise was one to remember.

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times."

Another tourney against some of the top organizations in the game saw its highs and lows. Had a shutout, got shutout. Threw a cpl 1 runners, got one runned. Got shut down by one of the Top 5 pitchers in the country, but also shutdown one of top offenses in the country.

All in all the girls had a good weekend. 8 errors in 7 games (most coming in a flurry as they do). But considering the bats we faced all weekend, I think the defense on the whole should be happy with their performance. Our own bats were hot and cold, which is also to be expected against great pitching (which saw elite speed, elite spin, and some times both in one package).

In the end, a competitive pool with low runs against sent us to the Gold with a 3-seed where we took a rough L against the 2. Tough exit, but a good weekend.

Onto the PGF Oaks next weekend, where things only get tougher as the field is loaded with the some of best from the South.
