Every bowler will sometimes run into issues with corner pins. This week's tip offers three options to change up your entry angle to improve your pin carry.

Kicking Out the Corner Pins

Consider one of these options to reduce deflection when you need to improve your pin carry:
• Create a sharper back end reaction by using a more angular ball or by adjusting hand position.
• Use more of the headpin by hitting a little higher in the pocket.
• Change your angle by making a small adjustment with your feet, but not moving your target.

I met with two bowlers recently in back to back sessions. They had been bowling for a few seasons and seeming to be struggling. Both of them had similar issues. They both had low ball speed, below 12mph with appropriate ball weights for there size. The fix was simple in mechanics but will take a while to do consistently. I suggested that they both extend the ball in the push away and then let the ball travel higher in the backswing to reach close to level with the floor. Also, to let the weight of the ball swing the arm fluidly to increase the momentum of the swing to deliver the ball onto the lane and resulting in getting closer to 13 - 14 mph.

I coached two bowlers yesterday, one traditional delivery, the other two-handed, no-thumb delivery. Both did well and gained from the sessions. Roy developed a couple of new techniques in his approach and delivery, while Mitch learned how to adjust his line to accommodate the number of revolutions and amount of hook from the two-handed release. We'll see how they both do tonight in their league play in The Colony. They were pleased with their respective sessions, and I was too!!!!!!!!!! , 😀🎳

I had a second session with Tyana last week and worked on her hand position to get more rotation during her release. Also, we addressed her issue with picking up spares. I pointed where and how to line up with her target to keep her arm swing in a single plane. Will provide her with targeting strategies for the most common spares. Plano Super Bowl Monica Valdez

Recently, I finished coaching the Fairhill School bowling team where they competed against other more experienced bowlers and teams. Their improvement, even though slow, was noticeable throughout the season. The bowlers did not let their record deter from their learning the better techniques nor enjoying practices and outings against the other schools. We look forward to the future season! I have another 2 sessions scheduled at Plano Super Bowl this week. The first will be an 11-year old and the other his father who has not bowled in a while. I look forward to these challenges.

Had a call from the last person I assisted with getting his Gem to hook where he bowls. He was elated with his progress and the reaction from his ball. He used words like beautiful and perfect. He was very, very happy with how I helped him at Plano Super Bowl.

Over the weekend at Plano Super Bowl, I had two sessions for newer bowlers who wanted to start with the basics to get started on the right foot, no pun intended. Well, that's not true. They both seemed pleased with the techniques I suggested they practice and both are planning a follow-up session.

Had another lesson with Jack Traweek who had regressed a bit since I last saw him. But between the video I took and my eyes, we focused in on the major aspects of his release and post position.
