You know your radio codes.
You know your policies.
You know when something feels off on a call.

But when was the last time you checked your own stress level?

After talking about the Stress Bucket, today I want you to actually check yours. 🪣

This 3-Minute Stress Bucket Audit will help you:

• Identify what’s filling your bucket
• Recognize how stress is showing up
• Separate what you can control from what you can’t
• Choose ONE thing you can do today to lighten the load

Grab your Notes app or a piece of paper and swipe through.

Don't just read it. Do it.

When you're finished, you should have:
4 stressors. 1 bucket score. 1 warning sign. 1 action.

You don't have to fix everything today.

But you do need to know what you're carrying.

So… how full is your bucket?

We’re really good at saying, “I’m fine.”

But sometimes “fine” looks like being irritated by everything, forgetting things you normally wouldn’t, pulling away from people, feeling exhausted, or having absolutely nothing left to give.

That doesn’t always mean you need to push harder.

Sometimes it means your stress bucket is full.

The goal isn’t to eliminate every stressor. That’s not realistic, especially in this profession.

The goal is to recognize when your load is getting too heavy before it starts spilling into your health, your work, and the people you love.

So check in with yourself today:

What has been filling your stress bucket lately?

And stay with me. In the next post, I’ll give you a simple tool to help you identify what’s filling your bucket and what you may be able to take out. 🪣

For years, I thought stress looked like falling apart.

I was wrong.

Stress is often much quieter.

It shows up when you snap at people you love.
When you forget simple things.
When you stop answering texts.
When you're exhausted but can't sleep.
When even the smallest task feels overwhelming.

Many women in law enforcement and first responders think they're losing their edge.

They're not.

More often than not, they're carrying a load that was never meant to be carried alone.

The job asks a lot of us.

It asks us to stay calm in chaos.
To make split-second decisions.
To witness tragedy.
To keep showing up, shift after shift.

Eventually, your mind and body start sending signals that something needs attention.

Those signals aren't signs of weakness.

They're signs that it's time to recover.

This week, before you criticize yourself, ask a different question:

Am I failing... or am I simply overloaded?

Sometimes that one question changes everything.

💬 Which one shows up for you first: irritability, forgetfulness, isolation, exhaustion, or lack of motivation?

I used to think I could push through exhaustion.

One night, while working deep nights, I was so tired I could barely keep my eyes open.

I decided to head back to the station to grab a safe, 15-minute power nap.

As I turned toward the station, I glanced across the intersection and saw two men running out of Walgreens.

The scary part?

It took me a moment to realize what I was actually seeing.

My brain was trying to process what my eyes were looking at.

As I drove past the front of the store, the manager was waving frantically, yelling, "We've been robbed!"

I got on the radio, but I remember struggling to think clearly. My descriptions weren't as complete as they should have been because I was still trying to process what had just happened.

Thankfully, more officers responded quickly.

We caught both suspects.
Recovered the weapon.
Recovered the stolen money.
And everyone went to jail.

On paper, it was a successful call.

But my shift wasn't over.

I could barely read the notes I had written from the witness.

Driving to the jail, I was fighting to stay alert.

Even completing the booking paperwork took multiple attempts because my brain simply wasn't functioning at its best.

That night taught me something I'll never forget.

Fatigue doesn't just make us tired. It slows our thinking, clouds our judgment, and impacts our performance when people are counting on us to be at our best.

For years, we've treated exhaustion like part of the job.

It doesn't have to be.

Protecting your sleep isn't about comfort.

It's about officer safety, sound decision-making, and serving your community with the focus they deserve.

Sleep isn't a luxury. It's part of your equipment.

Have you ever had a moment where fatigue affected your performance? I'd love to hear your story.

There are moments after an event when the lights go out, the stage is empty, and the adrenaline finally settles. This is one of those moments.

As I reflect on this year's Lone Star Natural, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. People often see the stage, the trophies, and the competitors, but they don't always see the incredible team of people who make it all possible.

To our Head Judge, every one of our judges, our scorekeepers, expeditors, runners, trophy presenters, and the entire Lone Star Natural crew... thank you. You gave your time, your energy, and your hearts to make this event something special. I couldn't have done it without you.

To our amazing backstage team, thank you to our incredible official tanner, our talented makeup artist, and everyone working in the pump-up room. You helped every athlete step on stage with confidence, knowing they looked their very best.

To our incredible vendors, thank you for believing in our vision and supporting our athletes and spectators throughout the day.

Your support means more than you know.

A special thank you to Jacqueline and everyone at the Uptown Theater, to Mike for keeping the sound running flawlessly, and to our lighting technician for creating a stage worthy of every athlete who stepped under those lights.

And to the leaders who continue to raise the standard for natural bodybuilding, thank you Todd, Michael, and James, and the entire ONX crew. Your leadership, integrity, and passion for this sport are evident in everything you do. It is an honor to work alongside you.

To every athlete... thank you for trusting us with your journey. Months, and for many of you years, of discipline and sacrifice led to a few moments on that stage. Watching your confidence, your courage, and your hard work come to life is why we do this.

To every coach, family member, friend, and fan who cheered until they were hoarse, thank you for making the theater come alive.
