http://www.outdoorvisions.com/Oct2015blast/blast.html

www.outdoorvisions.com Karamojo Safari is the tale of Walter Bell's epic journey into Karamojo (now Uganda & Kenya) some 100 years ago when it was still completely unknown to Western man. Bell's safari lasted 14 months, and during that time he shot 180 tuskers and brought back 18,762 pounds of ivory!!! Of these, 31 tusks…

Finally, Alex gets his bear!

Pictured here is grandson Alex and his black bear from British Columbia taken in late May. The bear squared 6’9” truly a bruiser. After a disheartening miss on the first bear attempted we continued to persevere and this bear pops up on the logging road 15 minutes later. One shot from a .375 H&H let the air out of him and he dropped like a rock.

We were hunting with Dennis Smith, Bear Paw Outfitters. This was the fifth bear killed by the Harper family “boys” with Dennis over the past 10 years. It is a great experience and highly recommended.

We are looking forward to going back to British Columbia for a bear hunt with my one of my grandsons. This is a college graduation present. This will be our third hunt with Dennis Smith, Bearpaw Outfitters. Four of the five Harper guys have taken black bears with Dennis over the past five years. Grandson Alex is the last on the list, wish him luck.

To all our friends in the hunting community: so many thanks for your kind thoughts and expressions of sympathy for the tragic loss of our son, Rob in late January. He was full of life, loved to hunt, and a successfully business man. We will miss him greatly.

Air Namibia Charging Fees To Transport Fi****ms

If you are flying aboard Air Namibia for a safari be aware that the airline is charging additional fees for your fi****ms as checked baggage. Although the fee went into effect May 1, 2013, hunters are being caught unawares at check-in, so we are sending out this warning for those uninformed by the airline or their travel agent.

SA becoming world's model for sustainable wildlife conservation 08/14/2013

Hunting is sustainable, beneficial--for non-hunters, for game, for hunters. This is a message that needs to be heard! http://ow.ly/nSBGq

Adri Kitshoff of PHASA made the following comments in a recent speech: “Thanks to hunting, species such as the black wildebeest, bontebok and white rhino have been brought back on the brink of extinction.

“Kenya by comparison, which imposed a blanket ban on all hunting in the Seventies, has lost almost 85% of all its game. Kenya shows us what happens when there is no incentive for farmers to invest in game.”

According to Kitshoff, South Africa’s model for sustainable wildlife conservation also had important ramifications to many of the country’s other social challenges, particularly employment creation, skills development and food security. “More than 100 000 people are employed in the wildlife industry. Additionally, around three times more people are employed on a game farm than a traditional livestock farm.”

Another big loss for the hunting community:

Fred Webb, well known Arctic and Canadian outfitter, died recently at age 77. He was noted for his ability on record class muskox, caribou, and polar bear. He sold his outfitting business in 2011 and had been in declining health.

Bad news, good news, sad news:

Our good friend Bert Kleinberger was in serious auto accident in late winter. Had to rehab for over two months. All “almost” back to normal again. Our best wishes to one of the icons of the hunting world.

Unfortunately, his wife Bridgitt passed away this spring. They worked as a team when Bert outfitted and guided in Uganda. She was a nice lady, always full of smiles and cheer. She will be missed.

Raccoons Gone Wild ~ Enhanced Video Resource | Nature | PBS 07/30/2013

It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature.

Seriously, disrupting the ecosystem by keeping wild animals as pets and then releasing them is all bad.

Raccoons Gone Wild ~ Enhanced Video Resource | Nature | PBS This video resource explores how thousands of raccoons ended up in Japan and the dangers they pose to sacred temples and shrines.
