Resistance (Strength) training benefits are well documented and recommended for all ages and should be included in fitness programs. Young athletes 14 and under need resistance training to improve performance and minimize sports related injury. They also need professional supervision to avoid injury from improper training. Don't be mistaken, their bodies are different and should be trained differently than an adult body. My strength program is extremely effective and safe. I use a variety of equipment but Resistance bands are my primary tool even with college level athletes. Resistance training can be life changing in terms of self-esteem, confidence and enhances how well you do daily life.

Without question the maintenance or addition muscle is the best way to control body weight. Muscle burns lots of calories and as muscle decreases with age, inactivity, fad diets etc. it take fewer calories to become overweight. Sacrificing lean tissue for quick weight loss, fad diets and yo-yo dieting will haunt you later. Work with a professional to prescribe exercise including resistance work to ensure a successful outcome. Itâs very common for people to lose weight short term and then gain it back plus more. Thousands of diets work for short term but very few are successful beyond 4-6 months. Diets making claims they work without exercise should be avoided. Contact me and Iâll teach you how to succeed long term!

As parents we are always worried about sports injuries. Football is a sport where safety is discussed in depth. When attending games itâs common to see injured players hobbling around the sideline. My contention is that maybe we are focusing on the wrong things in terms of safety. Most assume that the physicality of the game and bodies crashing into each other is the cause of the walking wounded. However, the numbers donât make that case. More than 70% of injuries in football are non-contact injuries. This includes knee injuries. Most injuries are thee result of muscular imbalances and deficiencies in movement and poor structural integrity. Without proper movement assessments determining where deficiencies exist and what muscles are under active or over active there is no way to prescribe exercise to correct and optimize performance all while minimizing injury. Fitness is not a one size fits all. For 1 person stretching a certain muscle may be good, stretching the same muscle on another person may be harmful. Movement assessments are the only way to prescribe exercise to eliminate pain, optimize performance and minimize injury. Deficiencies in movement become dysfunction leading to disability.
