There’s something I want you to know about Billy Holden.

He pastors Innovation Church in Lafayette, Indiana, and this church has a particular love for the 67%. The people in their community who are unchurched and far from God.

They want those neighbors to know Jesus. That’s a heart I’m grateful to support.

Today, I’m welcoming Billy as member No. 002 of the 2026 Church Playbook Alumni Circle.

I’m praying for wisdom and renewed strength as he leads. For protection over his family and peace in their home. For opportunities to reach the people who are on his heart.

My two best friends quit the church on the same night.

Fifteen months into our second church plant in San Diego. We had grown from two families to 200 people in our first year. On the outside, everything looked strong.

Then my creative director — who was also my executive pastor's wife, who was also one of my closest friends — looked at me in a meeting and said, "I can't do this anymore. This is too hard."

By the end of that night, both of them were done. My number two, my number three, two of our top givers. Gone.

I sat in their dining room feeling disconnected from my own body.
That night, without knowing it, my 90-Day Rescue began.

What I learned over the next 90 days — and refined over years of working with churches across the country — became a framework. Five areas. When they align, a church stops drifting and starts moving.

Team. Time. Teaching. Technology. Touchpoints.

I've never released it publicly. Until now.
