Congratulations to Keaton Haynes for his committed to play ball at the next level at Cuyagoga Community College! Keaton is a solid young man that loves the game and had a deep desire to continue to grow. He made the right choice going the junior college route, as that is the place to go for high schoolers looking to play, develop, and create opportunities that they couldn’t get from 4 year programs out of high school.
You could argue it’s the best route for most high schoolers - even those who are getting power 4 offers - because of the draft option and arguably higher focus on development than any other level. JUCO coaches are around to move guys on. Every other level of collegiate coaching staff is around to win so they don’t get fired. Makes the whole process different for high schoolers looking to play at the next level, especially since the implementation of the transfer portal.
Kudos for Keaton for having the courage to leave the nest and go more than 3 hours away from home to go to a solid program to play baseball. And Tri-C is most definitely a solid program. Guys, if you want to find quality options like Keaton just did, you have to expand how far you’re willing to travel. It will be good for you to get away, meet new people, become independent. It’s the heroes journey, and you might have to get away from momma for a short time to become the hero you say you want to be.
Congratulations to Keaton and the Haynes family! He’s been a pleasure to train and watch succeed on the field!
