We had a long, long day yesterday - but it was a phenomenal experience for the players, our team, and our coaches. Most these girls woke up around 430 or 5 in the morning to report to Olentangy Liberty High School for warmups at 7 for our 1st of 4 games. We all shook off rust from summer break, played as a team for the first time, and by the end of the night (around 830 PM) they were firing on all cylinders. These were all scrimmages and were treated as such. Girls pitched entire games to get mound time/familiarity with their catchers and pitch calling, played multiple positions to develop as athletes, and they all got at bats against multiple skilled pitchers. They supported their Lasers sisters in the championship game, maintained positive talk all day on and off the field, and never once complained about outcomes, mistakes, heat, being tired, etc. I'm going to brag about each player now as they all deserve love after their effort and hard work yesterday.

#00 Ashlynn Naegel: Played a game in RF, 2 at 3B, and pitched against Beverly Bandits Premier Grossman. She held them to 5 hits and 0 earned runs. Absolutely lights out. She hit .333, with 5 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and 3 SB.

#1 Vivienne Nichols: Caught 2 games and played multiple OF positions, making zero errors all day. Had 1 double and 1 SB and was vocal on the field and in the dugout constantly.

#7 Elle Gibson: This kid was HBP 7/12 and her throwing arm was broken by the pitch. She continued to work while in a cast and this was her first game action since that injury. She pitched the very 1st game we played, and once she found her rhythm was her usual consistent self. She played 2B and OF in our other games. Her last at bat of the day she put a ball in play after dealing with the mental barriers of coming back from what happened to her.

#8 Chloe Millward: Played CF so calmly with a ton of confidence and we had her play 1B for her first time in years. She has practiced there multiple times, but game reps and situations are completely different. She did very well, and we are excited to continue her growth at that position moving forward. Made zero errors on the night defensively. Chloe pitched for her first extended time on our team last night. She pitched 7 innings, only gave up 2 hits and 1 run, and had 2 SOs. The fire this girl showed on the mound was amazing, and it was an absolute joy to watch. She also had 2 runs, 1 SB, and 1 SAC bunt.

#12 Harper Wright: Played 1B and was able to play OF for a game with Chloe at 1B. All she did was make TWO DIVING CATCHES. This kid will be something special in the OF. She also had a diving stop at 1B in our last game. Harper had 1 double and an RBI on the day.

#14 Aria Jewell: Could not play due to having thumb surgery on Thursday, but showed up and was supporting her team all day. She scored the game in our book and is extremely important when it comes to pitch calling and tracking in the dugout.

#17 Henley Urbon: Played all three OF spots and was always in the right backup position. Made a great catch in RF for the last out of our last game. Had 2 singles, 2 RBIs and 1 run scored. This was my first time coaching Henley and she was so fun to be around. Her energy and positivity is contagious and she is incredibly coachable.

#18 Maria Asman: First time Laser, long time baller. Hit .500 on the day with 6 singles, 4 runs scored, and 2 SB. Played SS and 2B and was all over the field defensively, dominating at SS in our last game.

#20 Raelyn Sizemore: This was Raelyn's first taste of higher level softball and she more than held her own. She played 2B and SS - making zero errors in 4 games. She pitched against a talented Team PA and only gave up 3 ERs (our defense struggled that game). This was her first time receiving pitch calls from us on every pitch and pitching against a roster of highly talented players. The sky is the limit for Raelyn, and her growth each time we take the field will be fun to watch.

#21 Cora White: Played 2 soccer games, the made the trip to Columbus to play in our last game. She immediately made 2 great catches in CF in the first 2 defensive plays of the game. She went 1/2 with a double and 2 runs scored in one game of action. I haven't coached Cora since coach pitch, and am thankful for the opportunity to do so again.

#23: Amirrah Bolden: Caught 2 games and played 3B for the other 2. This kid is fearless behind the plate and playing the hot corner. I'm very proud of the growth she was made finding her voice and confidence to lead on the field. She had 2 singles, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, and 2 HBP. Amirrah blocks tons of pitches on defense and is always willing to get hit by more pitches when she is batting to help the team.

I could talk about these kids for hours. It is a privilege to coach each and every one of them. I cannot wait to see what our future holds. Next up, we practice for a couple of weeks and then head to Indiana for an Alliance Qualifier 9/19.

We wish our #14 Aria Jewell the best of luck on her surgery Thursday, as she had an unfortunate setback right when she thought she was clear to resume playing the game she loves. She will resume learning the X’s and O’s of the game from the dugout while sitting next to her coaches and keeping the book this fall.

As the late and great Kobe once said “When you get hurt, you have to accept it, work through it, and not let it defeat your drive."

Today we had a great practice with our Lasers sisters Ohio Lasers Steed! 21 young athletes got a ton of reps, situational softball, and instruction from a total of 6 coaches working together. Thank you for inviting us to your fields and spending time together today. Best of luck this season!
