Starting bracket play today!

“The next play” - the mentality that changes everything.

I’ve been watching a lot of @alansteinjr ‘s content. I’ve also been reading a lot of books recommended by him and others on emotional regulation and getting into peak state. It’s a practice that has helped me perform at a high level. It’s also a practice I’ve continued to teach to salespeople and realtors worldwide for several years now.

Life throws inconveniences and annoyances at us all the time. So what do you do?

👉🏼 your deal doesn’t close when it should
👉🏼 a client ghosts you
👉🏼 you don’t sign the client
👉🏼 your client decides to go with somebody else
Etc

Here’s the reality—your feelings don’t change what’s already happened. Resisting reality is a losing battle 100% of the time. So instead of wasting energy on frustration, you need to take a deep breath, smile, and move to the Next Play.

The Next Play mindset isn’t just about handling life’s daily inconveniences—it’s just as powerful for navigating major life transitions as well.

In these moments, Next Play isn’t just about moving forward quickly—it’s about choosing a thoughtful, purposeful, and intentional response to life’s changes. It’s about recognizing that every setback, every disappointment, and every transition is an opportunity to shape what comes next.

So no matter what challenges you’re facing—big or small—take a breath, accept reality, and move to the Next Play. Because that’s where your growth, your resilience, and your next great opportunity begin.

📖 Want my favorite book recommendation on this topic? It’s one Alan references a lot too. Comment “next play” and I’ll dm the title to you so you can buy it, read it and get better at this skillset.

📝 Clips taken from several of Alan’a articles.

Facts 👇🏾

Basketball training and skill development often get used like they mean the same thing, but they’re actually very different. Training usually focuses on activity—drills, sweat, movement, and repetition. Players leave tired and feeling like they worked hard, but that doesn’t always mean their game actually improved.

Skill development is about intentional growth. It focuses on decision-making, reading the defense, footwork, timing, and learning how to apply skills in real game situations. Instead of just going through drills, players are being taught why things work and how to use them when the game speeds up.

Great development connects the two. Training builds work ethic and repetition, but skill development builds understanding. The best players aren’t just the ones who train the most—they’re the ones who train with purpose and develop skills that translate when the lights come on. 🏀
