My toilet handle broke, so currently I’m flushing it by reaching inside the tank. 🚽😂
Could I fix it myself? Probably.
Do I know how? Not really.
So now I have two options:
1. Figure it out at Home Depot.
2. Pay someone $200 to fix a $10 part.
Thankfully, my brother is coming into town next week, so there’s a decent chance I’m living like this until then. 😅
This is the stuff nobody talks about when it comes to homeownership. When you’re renting, you call the landlord and it’s their problem. When you own the home, it’s your problem.
And honestly, that’s one of the reasons some people prefer renting.
But here’s the thing…
Over the last 10 years, I’ve built more than $200,000 in equity from owning homes. So while dealing with broken toilet handles, leaky faucets, and random repairs is annoying, I’ll take those inconveniences all day long if it means building wealth.
Homeownership isn’t perfect. Appreciation has slowed, and I usually tell people to plan on staying in a home for at least 5 years to make the numbers work.
But imagine yourself 5 years from now:
If you keep renting, you walk away with memories and rent receipts.
If you buy a home, you may have built equity, paid down your loan balance, and created wealth for yourself.
Sometimes building wealth looks a lot less glamorous than Instagram makes it seem.
Sometimes it looks like flushing your toilet with the lid off. 😂🚽
