Comments? Modernizing the Alice medium design continues. The intent with this sleep system compartment is that you can collapse it when not in use.

There is a compartment separator in the middle of the pack to contain the sleep system. The last photo shows the size of the sleep system.

Would it be better to make a larger diameter pack, than this taller pack? Is there a need for 2 different packs: one for a cold weather sleep system and one for warm weather sleep system?

The new design has zip access to the top back for radio, wires, and hydration. The sides have compression capability.

Lessons learned: there is a need to improve how soldiers carry equipment weight on the modern battlefield. The human body is built for hip loading, not shoulders. Weight on the shoulders, while tolerable, does not give you peak performance; It increases energy cost that affects mobility, decision making, and response time~ impacting survivability and mission success.
