Wesley Acres resident Elaine Hamilton recognizes the importance of voting and found a safe way to do so. With the support of her daughter and Wesley Wheels, Elaine, was able to exercise her right to vote and have her voice heard. Thank you, Elaine for your passion and leadership showing us all how to break barriers to make a change.
More to come as we will be spotlighting Elaine and her service to our country.

On this evening before Veterans Day, we want to remind you that WesleyLife Hospice is a proud top-tier partner of We Honor Veterans, enabling us to provide the best end-of-life care to the veterans we serve.
Through this program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs, WesleyLife Hospice is able to train hospice team members and volunteers to recognize the unique needs of veterans and their families. We Honor Veterans can help guide those veterans to share their stories and navigate toward a peaceful life ending.
We're grateful to be a part of We Honor Veterans, and we are honored to serve so many brave men and women who sacrificed so much for our freedoms. This week especially, we express our thanks and gratitude.

If you're like most of us, you probably had no idea today is National Stress Awareness Day! Founded by the International Stress Management Association, the observation of the day reminds us all to examine the primary causes of stress in our lives and develop coping tools.
Many of us are prone to such stress-relieving behaviors such as overeating when we're stressed, as this tongue-in-cheek photo demonstrates! But the association suggests these coping tools instead:
- Develop a routine to help you lessen your tension. Do some deep breathing, get some exercise or a massage, or take a long, relaxing bath.
- Exercise! A good workout can produce endorphins to help combat stress.
- Don't try to manage stress alone. Talk with a trusted friend or family member. Sometimes "venting" makes all the difference; just don't hold everything in to try to be "strong." We all need an outlet.
- Seek professional help. Get a referral from your primary healthcare provider to see a mental-health provider, or check to see if your employer offers an Employee Assistance Program.

Happy Birthday to the BEST office manager, Rita Nims! Team members enjoyed celebrating Rita today and surprising her was so much fun.

Rob was named CEO in 2003 after having served as chief operating officer of WesleyLife from 1996 until that year. Since his installation as CEO, Rob has grown WesleyLife from a provider of senior housing to 1,000 older adults to one that enhances the health and well-being of more than 10,000 individuals through an integrated and comprehensive network of services. Last year, we extended our mission to the Quad Cities, and in 2021, we'll open our 12th community.

One of the great benefits of living at Wesley Acres is that we are a continuum of care and offer many different levels of care and services.
Jim credits the Health Center team for pushing him. Jim said, "I appreciate all that the staff has done for me from therapy to nursing to social services, I just can't thank them enough."

Happy Grandparents Day!
By: Waechter L.
This year has been hard without family by your side,
It's no doubt this year has taken us on one crazy ride.
It hasn't been easy, that we all know,
But in the meantime the grandkids continue to grow.
They look forward to seeing you, in person or by phone,
To tell you they love you and that you are not alone.
They love to tell you about all they have done,
And how when they see you, you will have so much fun!
They can't wait to see you and hug you again,
No matter how long the time has been.
Either side by side or far apart,
You are always special in their hearts.
We wanted to honor you in a special way,
By wishing you THE BEST Grandparents Day!
Yesterday may have been chilly outside but what fun we had taking the scenic route for a Dairy Queen run! 🍦🍨
Do you have a Grandmother or Grandfather who lives at WesleyAcres? If so, we'd LOVE to invite you to send a message to your loved one on Grandparent's Day - THIS SUNDAY, September 13. Please email a short message and picture (if possible) to Lindsay Waechter at [email protected]
This Labor Day, we thank all our team members for all the dedication, expertise, and compassion that go into helping to enhance a sense of purpose and meaning in the lives of those we serve. We are indeed better together!
Just a reminder that WesleyLife is working with an abundance of caution toward reopening all 11 of our communities, and we look forward to the day we'll be able to welcome family members and friends back to all our campuses!
As you may know, the state of Iowa has recommended a phased reopening process for all senior living communities, and WesleyLife is following that guidance. Each community is reopening at its own pace according to standards and benchmarks outlined in the plan, weighing such variables as the positive percentage of COVID in the greater geographical community.
In addition, to take advantage of all tools in our arsenal, we are routinely testing all team members, residents, and partners in our Health Centers in a further attempt to protect those we serve, and those who are providing care.
Any questions about the reopening of a specific campus may be directed to the leadership of that community. We are grateful to all those who have shown us such tremendous support as we work to keep our communities safe!
If you're trying to assist a parent or other loved one in making a decision about senior living and have some uncertainties because of COVID, these comments from Maria Morahn, a resident at Wesley Acres in Des Moines, might be helpful! Like many of our residents, Maria has found comfort in "riding out the storm" with other residents, and has appreciated our team members' efforts to help residents stay connected with loved ones.
ALL of our communities are offering private and/or virtual tours at this time. To inquire about a community or schedule a tour, please contact Ward at (515) 201-9675. We would love to welcome you or someone you love to WesleyLife!
