Iowa Family Massage Therapy

My purpose includes helping people who are healing from various forms of trauma or who are experiencing depression, anxiety, PTSD or body image challenges to feel healthy, happy and whole again.

I also provide pre/postnatal massage! I am passionate about the physiological wisdom of massage that creates new pathways of love in our bodies and can catalyze deep soulful healing. My massage practice has harmonized with my Energy Healing and Shamanic practices creating sessions that encompass the soulful/spiritual and physical aspects of our being. I have assisted hundreds of people in experiencing embodied awakening through massage and I celebrate and honor the unique body temple of each individual. I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist for the past 5 years and offer a range of modalities including Swedish, Hot Stone, Prenatal, Postpartum, Thai Massage and Shamanic Bodywork. I have also delved deeply into Energy and Shamanic Healing practices over the past five years and will begin teaching Womb Awakening and Shamanic Dance practices soon. I am currently practicing within the sacred space at The Family Tree on Thursdays and Sundays. I will soon be offering hours Monday and Tuesday as well at my home near Gray’s Lake. I also offer a service for postpartum mothers where I travel to you for a Hot Stone massage which is used in indigenous cultures to aid women in this transition into motherhood.

COVID19: What Is It, How is It Spread, and What are the Symptoms?

As there is so much news coverage regarding the Coronavirus I want to take a moment to share some guidelines with clients.

If you are feeling sick you are always able to reschedule your massage free of charge! There is evidence that suggest massage has a beneficial impact on the immune system. However, if you are already sick, massage is likely to make you feel worse. It is also important to protect other clients that you stay home if you feel sick!

It is standard practice to always wash my own hands and to clean sheets between every client. In light of current health concerns I am also sanitizing all surfaces in my office between clients with a 7th Generation Sanitizer.

Consider what you can do to boost your immune system and keep your body as healthy as possible.

I’m sharing some article regarding this topic from Dr. Aviva Romm and an immune boosting soup recipe!

Please note that the ingredients in the soup can also be bought from a local healthf ood store in a capsule form to make it easier for you to consume. I’m really grateful for my Kyolic Immune Supplement from Campbell’s right now. It contains Garlic, Astragalus and Medicinal Mushrooms! Coronavirus is a family of viruses associated with a wide variety of infections, from the common cold to serious infections including SARS and MERS. COVID-19 emerged in China in late 2019 as a novel form of the Coronavirus. It is unclear exactly where the virus originated, but it is quite likely tha...

The Real Reason Massages Feel Good

"The Mayo Clinic points out that other potential health benefits of massage include helping maintain a stable blood pressure, relieving stiffness and pain and even helping with anxiety and depression. " Regular massages don't just seem to melt away stress -- they may actually lower levels of the stress hormone in your body, a small new study suggests. The research, first reported by the New York Times and published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, shows that indulging in a....

You Can Change Your DNA - HeartMath Institute When we are born, the deoxyribonucleic acid/DNA in our bodies contains the blueprints for who we are and instructions for who we will become. Ecopsychology: How Immersion in Nature Benefits Your Health

“It’s well-known that getting outdoors in nature can be good for people’s health and well-being, but until now we’ve not been able to say how much is enough,” White said. “Two hours a week is hopefully a realistic target for many people, especially given that it can be spread over an entire week to get the benefit.” A growing body of research points to the beneficial effects that exposure to the natural world has on health, reducing stress and promoting healing. Now, policymakers, employers, and healthcare providers are increasingly considering the human need for nature in how they plan and operate.

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder as a Result of Childbirth

"'Society celebrates the birth of a child as a uniformly joyful event, but what if the delivery of a child results in a traumatic experience for the mother?

While postpartum depression or the “baby blues” has widely entered the public lexicon, psychologist Sharon Dekel, Ph.D., has focused her research on a different aspect of the childbirth experience: postpartum posttraumatic stress disorder (PP-PTSD)." What if a baby's delivery becomes a traumatic experience?

Volunteering Is the Best Kept Secret for Mental Health | Brain Up!

“Research has shown that there’s evidence volunteer work promotes that psychological well being you’re talking about,” said Rodlescia Sneed, a public health research associate at Michigan State University who has studied the impacts of volunteering. “In my own work I’ve shown it’s linked to improvements in factors like depressive symptoms, purpose in life, and feelings of optimism.”

This is still an emerging field of study, so the underlying functions aren’t fully understood yet. But we have a few clues, like research that has shown oxytocin (a neurotransmitter that regulates social interaction) spikes in some people who regularly volunteer, helping them to better manage stressful events. Sneed said there’s also theories that volunteering is beneficial because it allows someone to focus on something else for awhile. It may also provide useful perspective. Your problems don’t seem as bad when you’re working with people who don’t have enough to eat, for example." I noticed how much volunteering was helping with my anxiety and stress, and there’s science to back it up.
