A volunteer can serve on your team for years and still wonder whether you trust them to do more.
They know you need them on Sunday. But do they know what you see in them?
“I’ve noticed how you help nervous children feel welcome.”
“You ask questions that get the kids thinking.”
“You have a way of helping new volunteers feel comfortable.”
Those observations can help someone recognise a gift they’ve never seen in themselves.
Then give that encouragement somewhere to go. Invite them to lead something specific. Prepare them well. Be clear about what they can decide, and stay available as they learn.
And when they approach it differently, pause before correcting. Ask yourself: “Is something important missing, or is this simply different from how I would do it?”
That little pause can make room for someone else to grow.
Our volunteers deserve opportunities to discover and develop their God-given gifts. What a privilege to help them take that next step. 🤍
