Help Shape a New Book for ADHD Tweens!

I'm working with a well-known ADHD content creator on a new nonfiction book for kids ages 11–14, and I'm looking for young people who would be willing to share what it's really like to grow up with ADHD in the 21st century.

The goal of this book is to help ADHD kids better understand their unique brains and discover practical ways to work with them, not against them. We want the book to be fun, grounded, honest, and shame-free, with plenty of real-life examples from kids and teens who have been there.

I'm hoping to interview teens and young adults who have diagnosed or suspected ADHD about what their tweenage years were like. While most interviews will likely be with teens and young adults (approximately ages 15–19), I'd also love to talk with a few current middle schoolers if they and their families are interested.

Our goal is for this book to reflect the incredible diversity of ADHD youth. In particular, I'm hoping to include perspectives from BIPOC youth, bilingual and third-culture kids, multiply disabled young people, and transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse youth, whose experiences have too often been underrepresented in ADHD content.

Boilerplate: Interviews will be conducted remotely. Any quotations included in the book will be anonymous, and parents or guardians of participants under 18 will be asked to sign publisher-provided consent forms before an interview takes place.

A little about me: I'm a former middle school teacher, a writer and neurodiversity educator, and a parent. Creating a space where young people feel comfortable sharing their experiences is very important to me, and I'll do everything I can to make the interviews feel relaxed, respectful, and conversational.

If you're the parent or guardian of a young person who might be interested—or if you're a young adult (18–24) who would like to participate—please send me a DM with your email address, and I'll follow up with more information.

I'm hoping to conduct interviews in August and early September.
Thank you for considering! (amusing GIF for tax, representing my own late-20th-century ADHD experience)

Why do I--as a writer, educator, coach, parent, etc.--also do improv comedy? Why have I kept at it for five years, and why will I keep going?

Thank you in Ferndale, MI, for providing opportunities to keep playing!
