How do I take care of my core needs?

As we start the week here is a good reminder of how to get things done.

What attachment style are you? There are no good/bad styles. Knowing your style in comparison with your partners can make a world of difference in your relationship.

Knowing who to be vulnerable with is very important to self growth.

A large part of my business is discovering what “you” want in life, relationships, job, family, etc. Sometimes discovering this is scary because you have been trying to please others for so many years. But having the courage to be disliked will feel better than a lifetime of pleasing others.

Just a reminder that what we see might not be what’s going on underneath.

Just a little reminder on January 2.

During this pandemic the focus has been on healthcare workers. I respect and love all the healthcare workers and what they are doing, what they are seeing, and how they are trying to protect us. I wanted to share a little bit about my experience being a therapist during the pandemic. I haven’t taken more than a half day off since the pandemic began. I am busier than I have ever been, but made less money (thank you insurance.) I am concerned for the mental health of our country and the possible lasting effects. As I’ve watched people evolve from March I have seen so much anxiety, depression, anger, isolation, fear, shame and incredible loneliness. Sometimes, I’m the only person that an individual talks too. As people follow the rules and stay home and stay away from their loved ones they are left with their thoughts in their head. These thoughts that prey on fear and loneliness and not always facts. (I have no friends, no one cares about me, etc.) I sit quietly, listen to their pain and hold space for them and try to offer support but I am weary. As most healthcare and mental health workers are. My wish is that we recognize we need to help each other. This is no longer a “I do me, you do you” society. The only way we will get out of this with our physical and mental health is working together. Wear your mask, get your vaccine when you can, don’t gather unless your mental health demands it and then do it small and safely, and truly ask how people are doing. And then listen. That’s all you have to do. Recognize we are all in this together.

I hear this every day except it’s not just mom guilt. There’s a lot of dad guilt. You are not alone.

Right now when the decisions feel scary remember you are not alone.

This is so important to remember. Often we might feel something from someone else and might think it’s about us. When in doubt ask a clarifying question of the person.

In the Covid-19 Economy, You Can Have a Kid or a Job. You Can’t Have Both. 07/04/2020

In the Covid-19 Economy, You Can Have a Kid or a Job. You Can’t Have Both.

This an interesting read. https://www-nytimes-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.nytimes.com/2020/07/02/business/covid-economy-parents-kids-career-homeschooling.amp.html

In the Covid-19 Economy, You Can Have a Kid or a Job. You Can’t Have Both. Our struggle is not an emotional concern. We are not burned out. We are being crushed by an economy that has bafflingly declared working parents inessential.

I hold space for each and every one of my clients. I think of you often. I send many of you positive energy in between sessions when you are facing something difficult. You are important to me and what is important to you, matters to me.

The Risks - Know Them - Avoid Them 05/11/2020

The Risks - Know Them - Avoid Them

Unfortunately, I will be conducting telehealth longer then I expected. If This formula is a true formula: Successful Infection = Exposure to Virus x Time then face to face therapy is definitely a risk factor in a poorly ventilated office building. Masks aren’t as efficient because it blocks your non verbals which are essential to therapy. Also, therapy is the right place to shed tears which we know can lead to runny noses and coughing.
This is a very hard decision for me. I love being in the room with my clients but I love connecting with you more in a safe environment. If you have questions, please ask me.

The Risks - Know Them - Avoid Them Please read this link to learn about the author and background to these posts. It seems many people are breathing some relief, and I’m not sure why. An epidemic curve has a relatively predictable upslope and once the peak is reached, the back slope can also be predicted. We have robust data from t...

Please be kind:

As we start to open up.....you do you, I'll do me. That's what America's about. None of us have the same circumstances (medically high risk child/ family member or a business about to go under, etc.). Let's all stay in our own lanes and keep the judgment down as we begin to reopen. No one should feel pressured either way.
Just a thought... As governors are trying to figure out how to ease back into normal, please remember:
🛑 Some people don’t agree with the state opening.... that’s okay. Be kind.
🏡 Some people are still planning to stay home.... that’s okay. Be kind.
🦠 Some are still scared of getting the virus and a second wave happening....that’s okay. Be kind.
💰 Some are sighing with relief to go back to work knowing they may not lose their business or their homes....that’s okay. Be kind.
👩🏾‍⚕️Some are thankful they can finally have a surgery they have put off....that’s okay. Be kind.
📝 Some will be able to attend interviews after weeks without a job....that’s okay. Be kind.
😷 Some will wear masks for weeks....that’s okay. Be kind.
💅🏻 Some people will rush out to get the hair or nails done.... that’s okay. Be kind.
❤️ The point is, everyone has different viewpoints/feelings and that’s okay. Be kind.
We each have a different story. If you need to stay home, stay home. But be kind .
If you need to go out, just respect others when in public and be kind!
Don’t judge fellow humans because you’re not in their story. We all are in different mental states than we were months ago. So remember, be kind.

When your hurting talk to yourself like you would a small child who is hurting

Thought for the day! So many of my clients, myself included feel like we should be using this time to accomplish tasks, lose weight, or be inspirational. Let’s try just “being.” I have a group of ladies who reminded me of this last night in a virtual happy hour. Find your people who encourage you of this and keep checking in with them.

I say this over and over in counseling and I try to remind myself to say it as a parent (I forget a lot!)

About arguments and hurts....

On this 2nd day of January ......remember these when you tackle your 2020 goals......
