🐸 What is a Coquí?
The Story Behind Our Logo! 🏐💙💛
Have you ever wondered about the little frog on our Coquí Michigan Volleyball Club logo? Meet the coquí (pronounced co-kee)!
🌴 What is a Coquí?
The coquí is a tiny tree frog native to Puerto Rico, famous for its distinct, loud, two-note nighttime call that literally sounds like its name: "co-quí". Deeply rooted in indigenous Taíno culture, the coquí has been a cherished symbol of identity, pride, and belonging for centuries. There's even a popular saying: "Soy de aquí como el coquí" ("We are from here like the coquí").
🏐 Why is it on our logo?
While our club is proudly rooted right here in Michigan, the coquí represents the heart, spirit, and voice we bring to the court:
* Resilience & Energy: Despite being small in size, the coquí has a massive voice that echoes proudly through the night. Just like our players, it proves that big impact doesn't require size, it requires heart, hustle, and teamwork.
* A Symbol of Home & Community: Just as the coquí represents a deep sense of belonging and community, our club is a home for athletes, families, and fans to come together, grow, and support one another.
* Blending Worlds: Our logo brings together the fierce energy of our club, the iconic Michigan outline and skyline, and the spirited legacy of the coquí frog, creating a unique identity that stands out on and off the volleyball court!
Next time you see our gear or cheer us on from the sidelines, you'll know the story of the little frog with the big voice that helps drive our team forward! 💛💙
