Operating as usual

Our girls team are returning three seniors this year, but we need a coach for the boys too. If you are interested, please contact me. We hold joint practices and I can help if you are motivated and willing. We practice Monday through Thursday from 4 to 5:30. I can teach you drills and will be there to help. You need to fill out a volunteer form and there is a stipend for it. The boys team did very well last year and have all returning players. Great kids.

There’s a new book I highly recommend, Queen of Northern Ice. I believe the author will be quite famous soon. It’s available on Amazon so buy it now!

Our first winning season in two decades but we graduated two players, with honors. We need some underclass students. We will teach you! Talk to Mr. Lavery as soon as you can. We want to build a state championship team. You can help, we can teach!

Please pass this on to parents and teachers...Tuesday, April 18th...4 pm...after school we will have our post season gathering at the courts...pizza...asking to bring drinks...parents, teachers, administration are invited...again Please pass this information to the teacher you want to see do our practice drills...lol

For those of you that don’t know, coach Jim Hawkins has been a great influence on both teams. We appreciate him so much!

The girl’s finished 4th in the County tournament which is the best we’ve done in many years. Six girls made it to the semi-finals and our number one seed was one win away from winning the tournament due to a default. Proud of our girls! Go Tigers!

DHS improved to 2-1 today by beating a hard working North Marion team 6-1. Our player of the match was Felicity who won her first doubles match and her singles match as well. We had great leadership throughout and displayed exemplary sportsmanship in our win. We are hopeful to continue our win ways on and off the court.

Our motto, “It’s hard to beat someone that never quits!” DHS Ladies and Gentlemen teams are going to have a great year because we’ll never quit!

Girls and boys first tryouts are next Tuesday! It’s going to be a great year!

The DHS girl’s are starting up around January 20th this year! Get your physicals in and have your $65 participation fee ready. This is going to be an excellent season this year! We’re returning most of our starters but we’re always in search of new talent. We have a great group of girls that have formed some fantastic friendships and learned a lifelong sport. Please share with any high schoolers. We have two experienced coaches. Beginners are welcome and we can find you equipment if needed.

Our DHS girls got there first team win yesterday against a tough West Port team. Felicity Comiskey shot her career best for nine holes as did Grace Petersen. Abigail LaRoche and team captain Emmy George played well to ensure the win.

End of year celebration! Thanks to all parents, teachers, and students that made it!

Our girls won their final home match of the season against Lake Weir last Thursday. Ava, Madison, and Olivia were dominating in their singles matches. Unfortunately, we were unable to play our 1 singles match but Abi and Victoria teamed up for the first time to win a solid match at two doubles. If their are any middle school boys or girls interested in joining our team, I should be giving lessons this summer with some of our current players. Contact Coach .[email protected] or through messenger.

Our girl’s tennis team won against the Wolfpack of Westport yesterday, our seriously stressful season series is now tied to 1-1. The girls won 5-2 overall decimating all their singles opponents. Ava Kleinemeier, Madison Clark, Olivia Bittinger, Abigail LaRoche, and Hanna Brekkvassamo all turned in outstanding performances. Thanks to all that have supported our program and our wonderful ladies.

There is a tennis ball shortage this year! If anyone is willing to donate cans of penn or Wilson balls for our teams, it would be greatly appreciated. They’re hard to find and usually just over two bucks a can. You can drop them off in our front office c/o tennis teams. Both our coaches have paid out of pocket for many cans already. We’d appreciate the help!

Lake Weir match rescheduled to March 30th.

Our girls have a home match against Lake Weir Tuesday, come cheer on your Lady Tigers

Tough loss at Belleview yesterday, 4-3. Victoria made her debut and lost 9-7 in a great match. Abi continues her excellent season with wins in both her singles match and doubles with Ashley who also remains undefeated. Our upset of the night was Ava beating their top player in a 9-7 thriller.

Olivia Bittinger played a solid match tonight as well. They all continue to improve every match while having a great time!
