Sometimes your strongest side is doing more work than you realize.
That’s one reason we incorporate unilateral work into our training. By having each side work independently, we get a better look at how each handles the load and whether one side is compensating for the other.
For the lower body, single-leg and split-stance exercises are a great way to challenge each side individually, rather than allowing the stronger side to pick up the slack like it can during certain bilateral movements.
And it carries over to everyday movement more than you might think. Walking, climbing stairs, getting up from the floor and even catching yourself when you lose your balance all require your legs to work independently at times.
Building each side individually helps create a stronger, more balanced foundation for everything you do outside the gym.
Because being strong on both sides matters.
