North Star Jiu Jitsu’s Grand Opening schedule. 🙌

Special thank you to all the founding members who’ve reached out and asked to be a part of this gym right from the jump. I did my best to design this schedule so you’d be able to attend as many classes as possible, I look forward to expanding this as we grow as a team. 💪

Our Grand Opening is September 14th, that will be the first week we will be following this schedule. From September 1st-13th we will be having select soft opening classes and I’ll be reaching out to all founding members to set these up.

“I started grappling when I was 13 years old. I still remember how awkward I felt walking into the wrestling room for the first time. At one point, I turned to the kid next to me — this massive guy with a beard and mustache — and asked how old he was. Turns out, he was only 12. Younger than me. That guy ended up becoming one of my favorite training partners.”

From the outside, grappling can look intimidating. But once you step into the room and meet the people on the mats, you realize what the sport is really about.

It’s not about ego. It’s not about trying to hurt people. It’s about growth, problem-solving, and working toward meaningful goals. That’s exactly why I’m opening Northstar Jiu Jitsu in Eau Claire.

I’m a Jiu Jitsu black belt under Dante Leon, a multiple-time world champion and ADCC medalist. I’ve had the rare privilege of learning from one of the best grapplers in the world, and I plan to use those lessons to help students of all ages thrive in the modern world of grappling.

But the goal of this gym is not just to create good competitors. Jiu Jitsu is more than competition. It’s a place where everybody remembers their first day — and does their part to help beginners. It’s a place where people can work hard toward a common goal. It’s a place where you can be part of the team. All you have to do is show up. We’ll guide you through the rest.

Martha Craton is a dedicated practitioner and co-owner of Northstar Jiu Jitsu. She is an IBJJF Adult Worlds Bronze Medalist in her own right, and currently holds a Blue Belt in Jiu Jitsu.



Martha’s story starts far from the mats — deep in the mountains of Ecuador, where life was simple, physical, and full of adventure. As a kid, she rode ponies to the grocery store, helped feed guinea pigs on the family farm, and fought with her siblings over who got the cream cap from the top of the fresh milk bucket. What makes these mats so special?

My first day of training Jiu Jitsu, I remember stepping on these very same mats. I was a total spazz and got guillotined 8 times in a row by the mat enforcer, and somehow that convinced me to dedicate my life to the sport.

As I’ve come to find out, that isn’t usually how most people’s first day in jiu jitsu goes. Everyone has a story that they tell when they step on the mat, and everyone leaves a little piece of themselves on it when they step off. That first day, I told the story of a person who wanted to put his everything into something, and I left behind me unfinished business. I had a mountain to climb, and it’s a mountain I’m still climbing to this day.

Now, these mats are a part of North Star. 🙌

The heart and soul of any Jiu Jitsu gym is its Kids Class.

Many people don't believe me when I say a Green Belt(the final belt in the kids promotion system) is more impressive then even a black belt. That is, until they roll with one for the first time!

Jiu Jitsu is a rare opportunity for kids to learn the critical art of self defense in the form of competitive sports. But even more important is the lessons that come from setting goals, working towards them, and growing together as a Team.

I've witnessed first hand the effect that Jiu Jitsu can have on a persons life, and the number one thing people tell me is "I just wish I would have started sooner!"

Jiu Jitsu is one of the easiest sports for young kids to start even at an early age.

By teaching and demonstrating Jiu Jitsu through "Games" kids can learn the basic skills of the sport, all while learning valuable skills like listening, being respectful to others, and making friends.
