Blugolds! My name is Ben Streeter and I am running for re-election to the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate! I was honored last year when you elected me to represent Off-Campus students and wo
uld like to request another opportunity to work on your behalf this next academic year. A lot has changed since I was elected back in April of 2011 both in our campus and local communities, as well as at the state level. These changes have acted to further underline the necessity for dedicated and responsible student input within Shared Governance. Careful and smart budgeting of segregated funds has always been a goal for Student Senate but this last year we increased our focus and have integrated healthy skepticism when tough decisions have been made. With this progress comes much optimism for hopefully a long future of fiscally responsible spending of student fees. In addition, as the Blugold Commitment continues to role out its final increases, it's important that we stick by the responsible differential tuition budgeting that has guided us thus far--much to all our benefits. There was also a fresh emphasis placed on increased transparency between the Student Senate and the student body. We're excited to continue on this goal of connecting with students and making sure YOUR presence in Shared Governance is felt through OUR presence. Touching base with students legitimatizes both our actions and voices as we work alongside Administration and Faculty on campus. While careful budgeting and transparency represent two areas of particular importance to me leading into the 2012-2013 academic year, there are many other issues I have an interest in addressing or taking further action to pursue:
-Emphasizing inclusivity across our community through awareness programs and recognizing campus diversity
-Researching and discussing potential alternative food service options as the needs and tastes change for our student body
-Continuing to improve upon campus sustainability and champion green efforts through the Student Office for Sustainability (what has become a notable sustainability force across midwest universities)
-Addressing any and all concerns that students on our campus have!
