Notice to our Customers, Associates and Contemporaries:
For what it's worth and maybe a little drama here...our traveling pro shop team will no longer be involved at the Brunswick Bowling Store in the USBC tournament venue. We remain on the best of terms and it has been a phenomenal privilege and an exciting 30 years that gave us an opportunity to meet with many of you face to face.
Thanks to all of you who dropped in and spent time working with us: Dave Kreuter, Bob Ujvari, Jason Guest, Richie Sposato (before Lane #1 existed), Dave Martorella, Ray DiSanto Jr., Justin Wi, Robby Couser, , Tom Shepard, Cliff Saliba, Dan Sheappi, Andrew Horodecki, Andy Shutt, Ryan Ciminelli, Pascal Loyer, Matt Langolf, Dave Klass, Jay Futrell, Rick Dannis, Greg Sterngerg, Mark Anderson, Richard Smock, the late Mike Bacon, Geoff Martin, Alex Bermudez, special thanks to my brothers Bruce and Ricky Heim who rode out most of the earlier years with me along with Steve Hocking, Andy Wheeler, Robby Hydrick Tom Glass.and an exceptional job by our more current GM Joe Canino. Any one one else I may have left out.
Thanks to all of the Brunswick team supporters…Brian Graham, Cory Dykstra, Brent Perrier, Tom Tomaras, Ray Edwards, Ron Addison, Ron Bragg, Sandy Yokobonus, Mary Dipple, Cindy Numerador and sales reps coast to coast!
Thanks to all the additional manufacturers and representatives that played short and long term roles in our success. Bud Clapsaddle of Dexter Bowling Shoes, Richie Sposato of Lane #1, Mo Pinel of MoRich and the current Radical Bowling Products, Jim Nesbitt of Vise Grips, EPCO, Innovative and Jayhawk Products. Ernie Harter and Ray DiSanto Jr. of Precision Bowling Products. Jeff Mraz of Ace Mitchell Bowlers World, Steve Cook Bowling Supply and Classic Products. And much gratitude to Brad Handleman and Mike Stout of KR Stikeforce and their role in our success over the past 16 years!
And another special thanks to Tony “the Hook” Mendiola for going to bat for us so many times over the last 20 years while being with both Brunswick and KR Stikeforce. Thank you Tony.
Many thanks to former and current ABC tournament directors and especially Hal Kaminski.
A very heartfelt and sincere note of gratitude goes out to past V. P. Bryan Collins of Brunswick Bowling division. Brian gave my brothers and I unlimited resources to work side by side with professional talents in Brunswick President Fred Florjancic, Lynda Collins (Haske) and Jim Otterstrom of Ackerman & McQueen Marketing Agency. If that weren’t enough they teamed us up with Paul Barrow and Steve Milam of Crain Displays Exhibiting engineers. Both companies out of Tulsa Ok. With all of their combined talents we designed, not one but two, compact self sustaining futuristic bowling consumer product superstores beginning in the early 90’s. One store for traveling city to city and the other as a permanent location in the National Bowling Stadium in Reno. Combined costs easily breached $200,000.00. Not only did this new image stimulate millions in retail sales at the ABC / USBC Tournament but it lit a fire that set the stage for many successful pro shops that are currently employing these same templates. Thanks for teaching and letting us learn and grow with you.
A HUGE thanks goes out to Jim Bennett Jr who…after 3 years of my bugging him with letters and phone calls back in the early 80’s…allowed me to team up with Jim Martino from Niagara Falls to begin the “dream pro shop opportunity.” Together they let my brother Bruce Heim and I take it on the road and…after proving we could manage it…both Jim's allowed us to have it in “our” name alone.
And finally…the late CEO of the Brunswick Corporation…Jack Reichert. He personally went out of his way to encourage, thank, mingle and speak with us “mono a mono” as if he were one of us! An un-intimidating and approachable power poll leader of the industry. Here is a man responsible for billions of dollars of stockholders money who took the time to take a closer look at “pro shop guys.” Ultimately he’s the one who said “YES.”
As a “pro shop guy” first and bowler second…I have witnessed everything Brunswick has contributed to all of our lives in the consumer products industry. They lead the way in favor of “pro shop guy” in which many others followed soon after. New ideas come around every now and then but I personally never witnessed the care and respect given to “pro shop guy” like I have with Brunswick. Those of you who know anything about moving the image of “pro shop guy” forward, going back about 25 years ago, know exactly what I’m talking about. And by working with us they gave “all of us” the privilege of being on the cutting edge of physical retail sales, in ways that are too numerous to mention.
On behalf of our families, employees and all the rest of us that benefited from your influence we thank Brunswick once more, along with everyone of you, for enjoying this one-in-a-million opportunity to be a respected “pro shop guy” and to do business and coexist with the highest participating years of the greatest bowling tournament in the world at the ABC / USBC’ Open Championships.
We remain on the best of terms with all. We remain in the "thick-of-it" thanks to all of you!! And man...I gotta' tell ya'...from front to back...the timing...the explosion of equipment...being at the right place at the right time...what an unbelievable ride it's been!"
I wish you all the very, very best!
Doug Heim
