Mary Fregeau Engelberth, 90 years old, of Essex, VT passed away on June 30, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born on April 24, 1936 in Sherbrooke Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Albert and Catherine Fregeau. During her childhood Mary loved attending school at the Ursuline Convent in Stansted Quebec and spending time with the nuns. She graduated from Stansted College and then the Bugbee Business School in 1957 where she was active in the jazz band, knitting club, and played piano at the prom.

On September 18, 1964 she married her devoted husband Otto Engelberth with whom she spent the next sixty years. Mary had a tremendous amount of love in her heart and enjoyed helping others whenever she could. She was always there to offer advice and support to whoever needed it. During her life she enjoyed working at her father’s law office, organizing Well Child Clinics, running horse shows and volunteering wherever she was needed. Mary loved spending time at The Tavern at The Essex and enjoyed getting to know the staff and chatting with people at the bar. She also enjoyed a good martini and a barstool there bears a plaque with her name engraved.

Mary, a devoted mother and wife, is survived by her loving husband, Otto Engelberth; her children, Tim Engelberth and his wife Joann, and Beth Engelberth and her husband George Bergin. Mary is survived by her grandchildren Lena, River, Henry and his fiancée Taylor Barnaby; and her great grand daughter Eloise. She was predeceased by her parents Albert and Catherine Fregeau.

A celebration of life will be held at The Essex on August 21st from 4-6 pm. Please come and enjoy a martini in Mary’s honor.

In lieu of flowers donations in Mary’s name may be made to Essex Alliance Church, 30 Old Stage Road, Essex Jct., VT 05452.

“Because you have a body!”

Your body’s natural shaking mechanism is a body response we share with all mammals. In fact, when you were coming “into being” in the womb, kicking your momma in the belly, you were trembling, shaking, and stretching into being via your body’s natural shaking mechanism!

Your body wants to shake, and already does, even if you don’t notice it! The problem is that culturally we learn early not to allow this shaking to happen.

To zip it up. Keep it together. Be still.

And we have a litany of diagnoses and medications to help you see it as an illness or disorder that needs to be stopped. Sometimes this is true, like the challenge of living with Parkinson’s…

…and most of the time they are just your body’s way of discharging stress and tension.

It is an attempt your body makes to bring your organism back towards homeostasis. On the brighter side, exercise physiologists have known for a long time that vibration enhances athletic performance, recovery, muscle function and more! ❓Why would I want to learn TRE® (Part 2)?

👼🏼In the previous post I wrote about how you came into being in the womb through tremors, shakes, and stretches. It seems that these “twitches” that happen in utero help the nerves growing from your brainstem and spinal cord find their connections in your periphery muscles, think legs and arms for example. These twitches create chemical and electrical impulses that help a body connect to their proprioceptors, certain nerves found in joints, muscles, and skin.

☯Your proprioceptors are those nerves that help you know where your body is in space; in relation to your environment; and in relation to your other body parts.

🚨Injuries, pain, surgery sites, stress, and trauma all impact our body schema; interrupt our proprioception awareness; disrupt our body schema.

🗺When our body schema gets wonky we have a hard time feeling our bodies and making sense of how we are organized. Our inner “body maps” get distorted and that creates a lack of stability and impacts our sense of safety.

“Once [the baby has made these] neural connections [has grown nerves into their peripheral muscles] their body continues to twitch [away] to help calibrate their body schema…” (Khazipof et al 2004 Peterson, Waidenstrom, Fahraens, & Schauenburg 2003)!

THANK YOU PERU!!
